It's very pretty!  I bet she'll love it.
22  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / Re: Crochet Bridal Shawl/Wrap pattern? on: April 18, 2010 09:09:18 PM
The snapdragon shawl is done in worsted weight, so you might be able to finish it more quickly: http://tishrh.blogspot.com/2010/01/rectangle-snapdragon-shawl-pattern.html
She also has a triangular version, too: http://sendingtroopsprayers.bravehost.com/trianglesnapdragon.html

Good luck, and congratulations to your sister!

Looking up some granny square hats on crochetpatterncentral.com should give you a general idea of how to do the scalloped part.

I'm kind of confused by your pattern, but, I think that usually you start with any multiple of the number of stitches in the repeated pattern, "plus 3 for initial dc" or maybe plus 2 if it's an initial sc?

THIS ROCKS!!!!!  It looks like so much fun!  Once you had the pattern down, was it very hard to actually crochet?

30  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / Re: What do you do with cut off yarn ends? on: January 14, 2010 08:09:32 AM
You can use them for stuffing if you make amigurumi.  Somebody posted a pattern for rice-filled handwarmer amis here the other day, and she used yarn scraps to stuff the little arms and legs because it won't melt in the microwave when you're heating up the rice.
