21  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / Re: metal Q hook on: March 09, 2008 12:12:39 PM
never seen a Q in anything but plastic. No steel, no aluminum. what are you doing that requires a huge steel hook?
22  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: Knitting in church: acceptable? on: March 08, 2008 07:46:20 PM
I would see knitting in church- even if it were a mundane garter stitch or stockinette pattern that doesn't require attention- to be rude.  This is coming from she who knits everywhere- in class, on the bus, on her walk to school, at family brunches, at youth group. But inside a church, I would never knit. Church is God time, and should be TOTALLY focused on God. While people would make the same argument about knitting in class, being in church is a different situation. I knit in class because it helps me focus but never in church because I'm not the most religious and if I were knitting I wouldn't pay attention. Especially in a large church, I can see someone knitting during mass being as distracting as someone's cell phone going off. Nothing at all should be going on except the mass.
Especially eating, as LilMissPink mentioned, if you're Roman Catholic- There's a one hour fast period before receiving communion, don't forget.
23  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: Why is k2tog such a chore???? on: March 08, 2008 07:37:17 PM
if it's in stockinette, you might be plaiting your purl stitches. double check the videos on knittinghelp.com to make sure you're doing your YOs for each stitch properly- I'd been knitting for about 5 years before I realised that I was doing that.
Knitting through the back loop does twist the stitch, by the way- it creates a completely different look to your finished fabric.
24  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Yarn weight equivalency on: February 22, 2008 07:49:30 PM
I know that 2 strands sport=1 strand worsted and 2 strands worsted=1 strand bulky, but do 2 strands bulky=1 strand super bulky?

contact paper or lamination is probably your best bet.

30  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: to felt or not to felt? on: February 06, 2008 01:48:32 PM
I say use smaller needles- if you felt it, unless you're careful, you may not end up with the size you want. so I'd knit on smaller needles.
