Oooh. I went to a concert last night. Got home around one. Bought an overpriced/oversized band tee. And got a wonderful idea.
It's for All Time Low. They did the Umbrella cover on Punk Goes Crunk. And other songs. I sort of wanted the shorts. But I'm glad I got the top.
I had beacoup of this blue fabric. I love it. It's soft. So I added it to the shirt and made this hoodie for future concert wearage.
The hood is fully lined, and I'm going to add velcro to the pockets, as they are just big enough to fit my camera and phone. Yay!
P.S. I'm sure you've noticed the zipper is facing in. At first, it was a mistake, and I thought about taking it apart, then I realized, as much as I got groped at this concert, I really don't want to make it easy for someone to take off my top, so now, it's PRACTICAL! YAY!
I have an obsession with making bags. I know I should make other things to have a better range, but come on, who doesn't need a bag? I made these first two before school let out, in costume construction with nothing better to do (last time using the serger, *sigh*), and this other one last week in a desperate attempt to use up the four yards of houndstooth denim I foolishly bought cause it was on sale. It's my second bag from that fabric, and the third piece (made a corset that I posted. )
Yes, I give them all weird names. I lurrve comments.
Ooh, and can you tell me what in the world to do with this:
It's a yard of peach/pink leopard satin.
If you say "bag" like everyone else, please be specific?
Oh yeah. Oh yeah. I did. I did. It's my birthday (it was when I wore it).
It's made of denim:
And it's lined (badly) and has pink contrast stitching (I was going to lace it in pink. I changed my mind):
It has one piece of boning for every panel, and then two in the front/back. And it can be laced to the front:
Or the back. But I prefer the front.
I made the pattern myself. It was actually quite simple, though it looks weird when it's all laid out. It's perfect when you wear it. Yay! I love doing grommets now. Though my mom (who watched me do it) cringed as I hit the grommet directly instead of using the tool. YAY VIOLENCE!
So one of my best friends has a birthday tomorrow. Her sixteenth in fact. Putting aside the fact that my birthday is the day after, I must say I am psyched for her party. Well, I was. Till I realized I didn't have a gift for her yet. So I jumped into the big bag of fabric that I bought the other day, remembering the wonderful purple (her favorite color) fabric I bought. I said "I'll make a hoodie!" Too bad I didn't have enough fabric. So it was off to Joann. And after distractedly working on it for the entire day Friday, I finally cranked this out at two a.m.:
I'm proud. I love it. I would wear it. But I don't know if she'll like it. Our styles are so different. The colorful fabric is a Mickey Mouse mosaic. I looked for music notes, which would have secured her love for it, but, now I must wait until tonight to see her face. It's my first successful kangaroo pocket, though.
Thoughts? Do you think she'll like it? And the zipper isn't that crappy, my hanging skills are.
UPDATE: SHE LOVED IT! She called me the day after her party and told me, and at school, we had a little photoshoot (she skipped band and came to my theatre management class. )
So, I'm starting to combine my many obsessions into one project at a time, now (in addition to combining my topics here). So, what obsessions (not to mention desperate needs and PRACTICAL PURPOSES) did I combine into THIS?
I needed a new bag. I needed a new wallet. I needed to use up this fabric. I love mini backpacks. I love faux fur. I'm currently obsessed with handsewing. I like polkadots. Blue and pink is my favorite color combo. I love Jordy bags. I love tulle. I needed to use the rest of this tulle. I love cute things.
WHEW. So. The finished product(s)? A NEW BACKPACK AND WALLET PRECIOUS MOMENTS MATCHING SET!
BRING ON THE PIC VOMIT!
The backpack. ^^
YES! That is Precious Moments fabric on both, and that IS purple tulle trimming the wallet! And the wallet has three pockets, separated by that wonderful pink ribbon. Everything is so coordinated.
The fabric was a remnant that was one inch short of a yard bought at Joann. The fur was purchased at a thrift store, the tulle is the leftover from a tutu I featured in another post, and the polka dot fabric was bought with the fur at the thrift store. WHEW! Comments?
So, I don't know if I'm ALLOWED to say this (please tell me if I'm not) but I have a store. I've just opened it. And these are my first two orders. Oddly enough, both girls wanted something purple.
Weird. Sorry, they're not on people, and I have crappy hanging skills (I want to MAKE clothes, not put them on racks), but, I must say, I am quite proud of the finished products, even if my shoddy photography makes it look...less than proud...worthy?
The girl actually DESIGNED this shirt, and while it didn't come out EXACTLY how she wanted (there was much consultation on where to fix stuff, etc.), she loves it, and I love it (and considered keeping it, but it's not my size. ) The back is open, as you can see, and EVERYTHING is attached. You just slip it over your head.
This is just a simple tutu. The girl said she didn't want anything complicated so (shh) it's just two circle skirts sewn together. She loves it, she said she didn't want anything too perfect.
Thanks for reading! You know, the old Lakyn would have made this TWO topics. You only have to comment once, now.
Okay. I lied. THIS is my last post. It's two different purple houndstooth fabrics. One is smaller. One is purplier. 'Nuff said.
I made this dress cause... I really liked the fabrics together. And I was bored. Yup. That was my thinking. I also needed something to wear on Monday. I have yet to wear it. But I love it. I made the pattern myself, as usual, so sorry to those who asked where I got the pattern. And here are the "better" pictures, I promised:
I made this hoodie for my friend, cause she bought me fabric:
That's not her modeling it. She was absent when I went to give it to her, and I needed pictures. She hasn't worn it yet. I'm not sure if she likes it. It's huge on her. I didn't anticipate that. But I like it. So maybe, I'll take it back. Ha. Not really. Okay, enough babbling. Comments?
