1  headbands - recycled eco-friendly, african print, and argyle! in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by dreadlochness on: April 08, 2009 03:15:50 PM
hey guys!

i've been on a headband making kick these days!  this one is made from a really great african-print fabric with faces of all shapes, sizes, and colors.

these headbands are made from recycled t-shirts.  they're great because they're super stretch so they fit a wide variety of heads.  also, the felt embellishments are made from 100% post-consumer recycled plastic bottles, so they're very eco-friendly.

these next two are made from a great stretchy argyle patterned fabric.  i made one skinny and one wide.

i hope you enjoyed looking as much as i enjoyed making. Cheesy

player piano by kurt vonnegut, which i have not read!  yay for new books.

a journal with book pages collaged on the front and back.

photo frame with more book page collaging.

a book tote that says, "a book is a friend you can carry with you."

my personal favorite, a jewelry box with ayn rand's "atlas shrugged" cover painted on it.  it's got my big hangy earrings in it right now.

yay, i'm glad you liked everything, koolkoala!  Cheesy

here are the awesome items i received from her!

this headband is reversible so i can wear it with a variety of different things!  here's the other side:

i LOVE this headband, it's so cute and different:

and THIS IS MY FAVORITE!  you can tell by my dorky face. i've worn this a ton already.

she also sent me some awesome beads to wear in my dreadlocks!  she was so worried about them being too goofy for me, but little did she know, i'm just about as goofy as they come.  the beads include an octopus (my favorite animal!), an ice cream cone, a geometric design, and a kitty!

thanks so much for a great swap, koolkoala!

from whyme81687:

an ipod wristband!  yay!  no more sticking it in my bra while i work out! Wink

from gothchics:

the most gorgeous bag.  i'm using it to hold my hair accessories right now.

a really cute headband!

another cute headband!

and the best part - a makeup bag with a non-cloth lining so if my makeup spills, the bag isn't ruined!  i LOVE it.

great swap, all! Smiley

6  muu-muu to tunic-style shirt! (first recon!) in Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by dreadlochness on: August 02, 2008 01:06:28 PM
i bought a really cute vintage "tent dress" from etsy a few months ago.  i was so excited to get it, but when i tried it on, it was SO NOT CUTE.  example:

it made me feel like roseanne! but it showed promise and i knew i could make something out of it. so the first thing i did was to take up the length to a place where it hit me better.

then the neck started to choke me.  something had to be done! (ignore the cracked-out look here)

after that, it still felt a little too tenty, so i did a dart in the back to make it a little more fitted.

i love that necklace with the top.  i might make it even more fitted, or wear a big belt right under the bust to give it more shape, but for a first recon, i was very pleased.  i wore it out last night on a date with my boyfriend, and he LOVED it.  i hope you enjoy seeing it as much as i enjoyed making it!

7  Re: Travelers Swap Gallery in The Swap Gallery by dreadlochness on: February 15, 2008 09:58:33 AM
I'm finally posting pictures!

My partner was pinokeeo and she was AMAZING.

First:

she knew I had just purchased a sewing machine and gave me this great sewing and embellishment magazine.  I can't wait to try some of the projects in it!

Next:

a few balls of great yarn.  The orange, as you may be able to see, is already being crocheted into a hat for a custom order.  My customer wanted a vibrant bright orange, and I would say that orange is as bright and vibrant as it gets!

Next:

HOW AMAZING IS THIS?!  She made me a great leather case for my crochet hooks and scissors.  The leather is so soft, and she included two wooden hooks.  Did you carve those yourself, pinokeeo?  They're incredible and easy to use!

Finally!:

This gorgeous crocheted bag!  I can't tell exactly what it's crocheted out of, but it's some kind of fabric.  The beads in the middle as well as the colors make it feel very Southwestern to me - which is great, because my travels are taking me to Texas!  I use the bag every day to bring my crocheting to work.  It's perfect.

9  My first complete dreadlock tam hat with brim in Crochet: Completed Projects by dreadlochness on: February 03, 2008 08:24:41 AM
This is so exciting to me - I finally figured out how to make a large dreadlock tam with a brim.  It worked up pretty quick with this yarn, which is gorgeous merino wool.  I am thrilled with how it turned out... my first wearable brimmed hat!  Hooray!

10  Convertible - mittens to fingerless gloves! in Crochet: Completed Projects by dreadlochness on: February 02, 2008 12:58:38 AM
I'm so excited about this project I just finished recently.  I modified a pattern I found online to create these bright orange mittens that convert into fingerless gloves.  I find in the winter, it's always annoying to wear full gloves or mittens, because you can't use your hands.  But fingerless gloves give almost no protection from the cold.  So, voila!  These babies are born!
