1  Peeps at the Beach in CHALLENGE 26 ENTRIES by CraftScientist on: April 04, 2008 02:17:35 PM
Welcome to Peeps at the Beach!

We are so ready for spring here in Colorado, that my 10 year old recreated
a beach scene with Peeps, complete with hula girl, sand, a palm tree
and the ocean for the dollar store challenge.

Costs:
Blue Poncho for the ocean 50 cents (1 from a pack of 2)
Hula Girl $1
Inflatable Palm Tree $1
Peeps (laying around the house post-Easter)
Towels, Shoe Box, Toothpicks, Craft Foam, Boat and Sand from around the house
Paper Umbrellas/Fans - borrowed from Grandma

Close-up with Towering Palm Tree in background...
note the middle Peep on the beach is lying on a 'woven' beach mat made from a towel
scrap and toothpicks.

The kid's a huge fan of Craftster, and both Craft and Make magazines (even asked
for a subscription to Makezine as a Christmas present). We are always inspired
by what others create. All credit for this goes to my son - idea, costs, and design install is all his.

Thanks for looking!

2  Play The Recycling Game! Bag in CHALLENGE 20 ENTRIES by CraftScientist on: August 03, 2007 07:03:33 PM
My 9 year old son and I collaborated on this project challenge.

The design is solely his and I helped with its making.

The front is a checkerboard game, fused on with heat bond and then sewn around the edges. You know, for those times shopping with your Mom that you get completely bored and need a game to play.

The checkers are bottle caps. He collects them; it's an obsession. The are neatly contained in the inside pocket.

The back has our spiffy saying on it:

And at the last minute, he added a water bottle holder with duct tape. He's a fan of duct tape, too.

There it is! Thanks for looking.

3  Knitted (then felted) Slipper Socks in Knitting: Completed Projects by CraftScientist on: August 02, 2007 07:02:18 PM
Compelled to knit huge things and then shrink them down to size, I have ventured into slippers. I have boys with huge feet to try them out on, too!

Pattern was from Knit One, Felt Too and I mucked about with the colors and stripe sizes. Oh, and I also chose to do them on circular needles and knitted the pairs at the same time. I'd never done that before (well, successfully anyway) . To me, it made a whole lot more sense to try double circular needles for socks on a large scale.

The first pair was made from orange/green yarn for the ankle roll andsome Paton's orange wool for the rest. These are for hubby, size 10 with room for socks if he wishes in winter.

The second pair was for my oldest kiddo with red, green, and orange wide stripes.

And from the top:

Many people asked what I was making and I just had to show them they were huge clown size socks!

4  SnB Cabled Hats in Knitting: Completed Projects by CraftScientist on: July 31, 2007 12:38:54 PM
Here are two cabled hats from the SnB Nation pattern.

The first is a blue set with cabled hat and no-cable mittens. I did socks, too per request of my youngest.

The second is made of orange wool with a bit of maroon at the top.

Cabling seems complicated but it's really not (especially with this pattern). I find it fun.

Thanks for looking!
