11  Tropical asymmetrical mini skirt!!! in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by shilohcoral on: August 03, 2013 01:15:01 PM
My newest skirt! Made with vintage terry cloth. The patter is just two exaggerated trapezoids to create an asymmetrical hem. I then sewed elastic to the waist and folded under. The pocket perfectly covers a stain in the fabric. You can read more and see additional photos on my blog!

14  I need serious photography help. in Selling Crafts on Etsy.com by shilohcoral on: June 20, 2013 07:18:05 AM
Hopefully somebody here can give me some pointers. So I live in an apartment with natural light but the sun isn't on my side of the building until after noon. The walls in my apartment are off white. My camera was a hand-me-down...I am 23 and remember taking it to my senior year of high school so it's not ancient but not fancy. However, no matter how much I do the white balance, it comes out just not very good or consistent when I'm doing model photos. Even my small items don't end up where I want. I try to lighten in photoshop but you can only do so much before the colors look washed out. The background always looks grey or off white.

So I need serious tips. I want to start giving my shop a distinct look but don't want to set up a whole space in my house for photos yet. Every time I look stuff up, it's general info or product photography for small items. I know this part of the forum is dead but maybe somebody can give me some good tips or advice. I don't have a lot of money but I'm willing to make simple things to make my photos better. I plan on making a backdrop but I know if I make it white, the problem will still be bad since I tried to run an Etsy shop with this camera before...

Here are some photos, post Photoshop editing.

15  Front Tie Crop Top w/ appliqué and scrunchies from a 70s tee in Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by shilohcoral on: June 19, 2013 02:07:09 PM
Front tie crop top in a baby blue terry cloth fabric. I cut all the edges raw and did stitching in gradient blue thread close to the edges. I used the sleeve bands to make matching scrunchies. I then made a heart cut out with some of the extra fabric and made a patch using a commercial appliqué, some thread, and a few rhinestones. I have a good amount of 70s clothes to start reworking for one of my consignment clients so this is only the first one in the batch. I'm currently working on a sleeveless turtleneck Smiley

16  Hipster Style Sneaker Tank Top! in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by shilohcoral on: June 19, 2013 02:01:10 PM
I made this for my husband, although I had my friend model it too Smiley Oversized hipster-style tank top. I usually work with vintage fabrics but I liked this modern sneaker fabric...very fun! I may offer this as a free pattern on my blog if there ends up being enough interest.

19  Psychedelic Crop Top in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by shilohcoral on: May 09, 2013 07:27:09 PM
Made this top based off a pattern I created from an American Apparel Eyelet Tank. The fabric is a light double-knit polyester (my favorite fabric!). It's hard to tell in the photos but it's NEON pink. Added bust darts and top-stitching all around. Some day I'll do an invisible hem on the bottom but I'll live with the top-stitching for now. If you'd like to know more, check out my blog.

20  Summer of '69 Caftan! in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by shilohcoral on: May 09, 2013 07:23:58 PM
Super easy to make. Did this in a very soft cotton jersey. Entire project, after supplies, was probably $1 tops. Yep, I got the fabric for free! If you want to read more, check out my blog.

Made with Simplicity 8354, which is copyrighted 1969. Loving it! I had quite the collection of vintage patterns. Some day I'll get to them all but I know this is a keeper!
