1  Man vs Nature bag + Question in Stenciling: Completed Projects by cougaliciousx3 on: August 06, 2009 08:18:49 PM
Hey guys!

I decided to try my hand at stenciling, and was playing with a tote bag and some fabric paints and came up with this:

The first images I stenciled (the electricity poles and the rocket) I didn't use spray adhesive to stick the stencils down, so they look really messy :[
The jellyfish is metallic purple Cheesy

erm... ignore the shadows of words... they're actually screened on the otherside, and i just flipped the tote inside out, since I didn't want to have to deal with trying to cover/remove the images.

I'm not quite sure if I'm ENTIRELY satisfied with how it looks so far, or if I want to add some stenciled words to the right side (vertically, down the side of the bag? or horozontally along the bottom?).

Any opinions? Do you think I should add some words or just leave it as is? If so, what should I write?
Thanks XP

3  Flirty Braided Tshirt in Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by cougaliciousx3 on: August 03, 2009 05:41:54 PM
I'm so bored of old, plain Tshirts, and I'm sure ya'll are too (which is why we're all reconstructing, right? XP )
I saw a tutorial of how to braid tshirts on youtube recently, and I was like OMG I HAVE TO TRY THAT!
So... heres my result:

the back. I LOVE THE BACK Cheesy

the front. It's kind of blurry >< but you can see the curlicue I made out of braid :]
of course, that makes the shirt bunch up kind of weirdly, but its okay! =]

closeup on the braid

yup. I'm thinking of more, unique ways to utilize this technique. ^__^

4  Ugly Floral Dress into Glam Frilly Mini! in Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by cougaliciousx3 on: August 03, 2009 04:51:53 PM
Unfortunately, I don't have pictures of the dress, but I'll just say that it was ripped up, shapeless, and SEE THROUGH.

So I took a pair of shears to it, and here is the result:

haha my fail attempt to look stylish... and minimize the size of my legs D:

closeup of the pretty print

and my outfit!

I really love this skirt. I've been wanting one like this for AGES! I didn't even know I had the perfect skirt-to-be in my closet, BUT NOW I'M SO HAPPY!

5  (Really) Little Black (Tshirt) Dress in Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by cougaliciousx3 on: August 18, 2008 05:34:13 PM
thumbnail for previews =d

UNNECESSARY READING
So i've literally had this shirt since i was in fifth grade. HEre's the before pic: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/4/45/Dare_tshirt.png
They give it to us for finishing the DARE program, and since they ran out of all wearable sizes, i think i got like.. a XL or something. So i gave it to my dad and its been sitting in his closet for like.. the last seven years. OH and it was also the shirt that got me started on sewing! The first time i've ever heard about reconstruction was when I saw a halter that a girl had made with her Dare shirt and I was like "wow that's pretty cool!" and after that, I got into reconstruction, and from there, progressed onto sewing XP.

So i've been on a crazy dress obsession since... like.. march, and this is the first OFFICIAL dress i've made since then. A homage to sewing, for me, i guess you could say. The shirt wasnt long enough to turn into a dress, so i had to add part of another white tshirt, but the tshirt was OBNOXIOUSLY stretchy, so the white part of the dress was all warped and stuff. Hence the belt.
PLEASE READ HERE
But after adding the band, the shirt was STILL not long enough to be a dress =___= so here it is in its micromini glory. Should i make it longer? >< >< I have enough fabric left over from the sleeves to add another .. two inches i think.. but i'm scared it'll look puffy and weird (From stretching) ><;

closeup on the ruched front! yay

close up on the top

close up on the strap! they're slightly ruched, and supposed to fan out over my shoulder. I was thinking of adding a flutter sleeve, but I saw a DKNY dress that looks just like my dress (except with a tie, not a belt, and.. much prettier =d ) with flutter sleeves, so i decided not to =d Ignore my brastrap please Sad

I kind of wanted to insert triangular panels on the bottom (kind of like.. pleats) kinda like this => but the pink would be white..
what do you guys think?

asdf comments critique?! please =d thanks XP

6  Skirt or Top? HELP DECIDE in Clothing: Discussion and Questions by cougaliciousx3 on: August 11, 2008 08:17:12 PM
So I dug out this skirt from my closet yesterday... its about five years old, and back then, i REALLY like hte asymmetrical hem. now i realized.. not so much. So i was thinking of ways to recon it, and all of a sudden, i thought, "Why not a top?!"

theres two ways i could wear this skirt as a top, and i'll show you it as a skirt as well:

pardon the shortness (and my lack of .. er.. pants o.o;) I promise you won't see too much =d .. and i'll wear pants underneath! OH and sorry about the bra strap exposure, for those of you who might get offended >< I'm not comfortable with bralessness at ALL, and i misplaced my strapless bra =d

as a skirt:

as a top: seam FRONT (so i was thinking of covering the seam with a piece of contrast fabric, maybe dark green, or white) and adding some buttons

as a top 2 : YOKE front (i dono what i'd do to change it though...)

Even though i think wearing it the first way would be a bit more bothersome when  it comes to reconstruction (sewing buttons over a SEAM? ew Sad i think it'd be kinda cute..
but i really like hte way the SECOND one skims over my hips :

OPINIONS PLEASE?!?!?! and suggestions on how to recon? SadSad any ideas appreciated! THANKYOU

7  first time with pattern = purple and silver dress in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by cougaliciousx3 on: July 25, 2008 03:04:26 PM
LOL so i call this my slut dress only because its a) the shortest dress i own =d  and b) I shortened the hem about.. 5 inches from the original pattern.

I used Simplicity 5112, but i modified it a LOT [since i used stretchy fabric, i got rid of the zipper, moved the hem up, added a little silver bow]. It was my first time ever working with a pattern, and.. well personally i feel pretty good about it Cheesy

I made this for the season premiere [back WAY when] of America's Best Dance Crew. Since one of the girls on Kaba Modern is one of my school's dance instructors, a whole bunch of us from the dance team went to the live auditions to support her Cheesy since the dress code was "Club wear".. and I dont really own anything particularly clubby... i made a dress! Cheesy so here it is.

I didnt really get any shots of just me... so.. yay for action shots! Cheesy

ACTION SHOTS! Cheesy

@ 678 (a party hosted by my friend) with my two bffs Smiley

@ Speech Banquet..with a really tall sophomore Sad

@Speech Banquet again!

And i think its necessary for me to mention that i had the third shortest skirt at the entire speech banquet Sad hahaa

8  Dinosaur High Top Converse (rip offs)! in Shoes: Completed Projects by cougaliciousx3 on: July 14, 2008 08:56:14 PM
I havent touched these shoes for.. about four years. I didnt really like how it fit, so I stopped wearing them. Then i stumbled on someone who painted their shoes, and iwas like OMG I HAVE TO TRY THAT.
So.. this is what you get!
these dinosaurs are like.. my "trademarks." I draw them EVERYWHERE (even on a math textbook that was passed around my calc class) XP so i suppose the perfect picture for my first pair of painted shoes?
enjoy!

9  Denim <= O_O pinafore! in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by cougaliciousx3 on: July 05, 2008 07:29:47 PM
So i've been wanting to make a pinafore for AGESSSS except i never had the right fabric.. so i got this denim (its a really dark faded blue) that i got like.. three yards of, so i figured, if not anything, then why not denim?

at first i tried zipper closing the back, but i didnt really like the way it fit, so i thought.. hey why not a corset back? i was kind of scared cuz i've never done corset lacing on a top before, and wasnt sure whether, without shaping and boning and stuff, whether it'd fit right, but it worked like a charm! Cheesy

I was working on this dress at about 2 am friday night, and stupid me [and distracted me, talking to the bf on my cellphone], i sewed the top to the wrong side of the skirt. I'm not sure if I like it this way, or if i should switch it so the top part is the same color [the darker color] as the skirt.
any suggestions?
and also, i'm not sure whether i should add straps or not. I kind of like it as is, but i get the feeling its not a REAL pinafore without the straps. ?!?!

any suggestions?
[sorry for the long ramble =d]

front

back... sorry for the shakieness.. i didnt want to use flash on a mirror picture, and the lighting wasnt really optimal =d

closer up of the corset lacing
yay grommets!

so once again. comments suggestions?
and yes, the raw hem is on the back of the outside because of my stupid mistake =__= if i decide to leave the skirt, then i'll redo the hem Smiley

10  if only we could touch painted vans in Shoes: Completed Projects by cougaliciousx3 on: July 05, 2008 12:46:42 PM
so my old shoes kinda looked like the ones on the right :
and i got really bored of them

so i decided i wanted to paint them over! these are the second shoes i've ever painted (i'll upload the first soon!) and i used about thirty million coats of paint

here it is! :

both shoes!

right shoe: the woman [the paint's kind of cracked cuz i was .. uh.. too lazy to heat seal it.. but i'll get around to it soon! promise! Cheesy

left shoe! the man

most people i've shown these to dont realy get that they're people
can you guys see the people?

and the reason that theres silver streaks/ patches and stuff was that originally i wanted the blue to be a bit shiny so i added a thin coat of silver.. but then i decided nah i didnt want to cover all fo the blue. so now its kind of .. streaky.
should i fix it? leave it?

any suggestions?
(:
