1  Re: Potholder Swap Gallery ~ Sendouts 6/30 in The Swap Gallery by Retromiad on: July 08, 2010 12:18:14 AM
I received from Christina!

2 lovely watermelon potholders that go with my fruit-themed kitchen, and I'm not sure what you call the flower one, but I think it's to set hot plates on...awesome in any case!    She snuck an extra on me but I'm not complaining  Smiley

Ok, I am posting these pics for christinacoghill, my partner.  These are the potholders I sent her.  We decided to only exchange 2.

Christina said in her application that she collected crock pots, so I made this big potholder for her to match her kitchen (She said she had dark green countertops)

She also said she had several pets (cats and dogs) and liked bright colours (purple is her favourite) So I found this pattern that was an owl, and thought I could tweak it to be more catlike... I'll let you be the judge on how successful that was, lol.

3  Recently finished knitting projects in Knitting: Completed Projects by Retromiad on: October 24, 2009 01:37:31 PM

This is a hot water bottle cover, and a double knit scarf.  The scarf took me ages, but was well worth the effort.  I love the the fact that the image is mirrored on the back.  Notice my clever use of the word "Mom" which is the only word, other then yay and wow, that I could think of to use in double knitting. (It has to look the same backwards and forwards)

This is a blanket I worked on circular needles, started on dpn's.  It has taken months, but if I had it too all over again, I wouldn't.  LOL  Smiley  I posted the hanging up picture to show you an idea of the size, but as you can see from it on my kitchen table, it looks much nicer flat.

4  My first afghan in Knitting: Completed Projects by Retromiad on: October 30, 2008 07:31:37 AM
I apologize for the quality of the photos, believe it or not these were the best.  I have no idea what I'm doing wrong, but I'm glad I'm a better knitter then a photographer!

This is the completed afghan from the Learn to Knit Afghan book.  It took me 6 months to complete and you can read some of my thoughts while making it by checking out my post in the Learn to Knit Afghan Along.  Every square is different, so that you learn many techniques making this.  I feel like an expert knitter now, and patterns no longer look like a coded message to me!

5  I recieved today! in The Swap Gallery by Retromiad on: August 21, 2008 10:16:29 AM

This is Xylonia, who has a crush on Data from Star Trek (who doesn't, lol!)
Hopefully you can read the bio, because I'm feeling lazy  Smiley  Isn't she cute?  She has a fear of cats which might be a problem, because my cat is already showing curiosity about her.  Never fear, I shall keep her close to me at the desk!

Peeking out of the back (pink) is the letter, and what lovely paper FlowerWitch has used.  She also made me a swap journal, with my personal icon on it, lol.  I just noticed that now!
Also several laminated Star Trek bits and pieces, not sure what I'll do with those yet, but I'm sure I'll think of something!

Thanks Flowerwitch, it's been fun emailing with you and swapping.  You should be getting your package today as well.

6  Re: Make-A-Friend Swap Gallery in The Swap Gallery by Retromiad on: May 02, 2008 12:50:38 AM
I've just received the last package from Mave.  Now that we've finished the swap, I think we both feel like we really accomplished something, lol.

Here we have a set of 2 decorative spoons, and a, well I'm not sure what you call it, but it's a box with a handle.  It's covered (and also the recipe box) with these super cool decoupage of mini retro advertisements.  I don't know where you find those Mave, but let me know, because I LOVE them.  I want to plaster everything I own with those, lol!  Of course there's a recipe box, with handmade recipe cards, and at the far left there is an interesting box, it's cardboard, but it looks like a book, and on the front she's pasted a Mrs. Beeton's cover on it.  (as in the famous Beeton's cookbook)

Top left is a really cute little painting that Mave's hubby painted.  It has adorable little animals on it, my favorite is the little bunny.  Please be sure to send my thanks to him, Mave.
On the right is a great embroidery, that is set on a hot pad.  (so you can set pots on it, I think) but I'll probably just hang it on the wall because I love embroidery, and this one is a really nice one.
At the bottom is a tea towel, there are 3 cupcakes at the bottom. (I know you can only see 2, but I wanted you to be able to see some of the detail)

It's clear that Mave's recent acquisition of an embroidery book has really paid off, she is like the embroidery queen now!
Thanks for everything Mave, it's been a great swap, and a long one.  I don't think I could have struggled my way through with anyone else!

I got my 2nd package from Mave today.  The packaged mouse is a gift for my cat.  It vibrates.  In typical cat fashion he seems afraid of the toy, and fascinated with the packaging, lol.  Cheesy
She made a laminated paper placemat to put under his cat dish, 2 napkins with melted plastic napkin holders, and the napkins had my and my husband's name embroidered on them.  Then there were 2 flowered embroidered placemats and the 2 little kitty heads are plastic magnets.
Thanks Mave.

I received from Mave today! She only sent it yesterday, so this may in fact be the fastest the UK postal service has ever delivered!  Smiley

Lots of lovely stationary items, including really cute cards decorated with buttons (gotta love buttons!) And an UBER CUTE mix and match stationary set, which I very much look forward to using!
Lovely postcards, my favourite is the one with the "Doors of Beverely"
That little sheep you see is amazing, it's tail pulls out to be a tape measure, and when you press it's tummy, the tape rolls in.  I have literally had to fight my cat over this!  Cheesy  It's lovely.
She sent me an eraser and pencils that were made from recycled items like cd cases, who knew they could do that??  Mave is REALLY into recycling, maybe TOO much into recycling as the notebook made from recycle Rhino Poo may attest too, lol!!  It actually makes rather lovely paper though, who knew?  Also she made me a lovely notepad with inspiration words on it like "think, create, plan and enjoy"
She gave me a craft magazine which is practically a book, Called "Craft"  and a book called "Get crafty"  I can't wait to read these!
She made 2 neat coasters, and a little needle holder which she made with embroidery.  Also a little storage tin for bits and pieces.
And as a bonus, she sent me a DVD for my birthday (was in February) which I thought was really sweet, and I can't wait to watch it!
I hope I'm not forgetting anything!
Oh yes I am, 2 heart shaped candles!  and they smell lovely! And a candy bar!  I think that's it  Smiley  Oh, and some tea, lol, there were SOOOO many things in this package!!   Grin
I know the picture isn't the greatest, but my camera is losing charge and I can only take one picture at a time... very annoying!
I love everything Mave, thank you very much!  I really didn't do your package justice, but it was just great, plus my hubby is super jealous!  Smiley

9  Re: Christmas Ornament Swap Thats Right Another One in The Swap Gallery by Retromiad on: December 06, 2007 09:04:23 AM
Lacey is an amazing swapper... seriously, I was totally spoiled!

3 lovely felt ornaments... now you'd think that was all but you'd be so wrong!

It came in this amazing bag, with pearl handles AND little sparklies over it, these sparkly ornmanents are amazing... I LOVE THEM.  I said I liked sparkly things and lacey did NOT let me down, they're even in my favorite colors!!!
Even this was not all, there were 3 more paper ornaments that were gorgeous, I'm sorry lacey, but the picture did not turn out for those and Erik's packed the camera up for his trip.  If you have a pic of those please post them, if not, I'll post one next week.
All I can say is wow, they just kept coming and coming!!  I feel a bit inadequate now, lol, but I'm glad you liked yours!  Thanks for everything *hugs*Smiley

10  Re: An Xmas Ornament in a Week Gallery! in The Swap Gallery by Retromiad on: November 28, 2007 08:51:40 AM
Ok, here's a photo of my lovely stuff from Mave

I want to explain that on the large ornament/card, I put a piece of cardboard strip on it for the photo, that's because my name is under it, and it's written in the same lovely script as the rest of the card.  This was such a cool surprise, because I told Mave off-handedly while chatting about other stuff that I really liked the screen cards used for the credits of "It's a Wonderful Life"  if you remember that movie, you can see she recaptured the main one perfectly!!  I actually gasped out loud when I saw this.  Now as far as I'm concerned that was the "star" of the package, but I don't want to take anything away from the cute little cross stitch ornament she gave me either.  It's a cute little star wearing a santa's hat, and it's mounted on board, covered with a wonderfully retro/xmas paper.
I'm 100% thrilled with what I got and anyone would be lucky to have Mave as a swapping partner in the future!
Thank you so much, Mave, this was an extremely fun swap!
