This I did my freshman year of college.  Everyone in my drawing class had to do a self portrait.  The teacher photographed each of us outside the school twice and we got to choose which photograph we wanted to do. 

It is 2'8" X 3'10".  The paper is divided into 2 inch squares and is worked one by one. Each of the students had to choose a mark to be repeated over and over again to form a picture.  I chose to do a stamp of a smiley face with a tongue sticking out.  I carved my own stamp and used various inks.  Colors used were red, beige, yellow, black, green and various shades of blues and purples.

We were supposed to work each square exclusively.  And when we were done, we moved on to the next, not looking back and trying to fix what we did in the last square.  But not all kids did this and you could tell if all the squares connected seamlessly.  In order to keep our marks in one square, we cut a square out of a piece of paper and put it over our poster while we worked. 

Unfortunately I left it on the couch and my dog trampled over it. It's now ripped in the middle.
