1  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / my life goal, to make the brioche hat from weekend knitting. on: October 08, 2007 10:57:12 PM
and I FINALLY did it after staring at the pattern for a year and a half. it's not perfect... the decreasing at the top could have been done with more care, but toward the end of hat projects i always go nuts 'cause i can't wait to wear it. i like it anyhoo!

excuse the INSANE face...hahahaa... i realized that i can make my eyes look totally nutso by looking down when the camera's angled down. hahahah.
2  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / three hearts necklace on: December 01, 2006 10:41:30 PM
after making the necklace with the birds, i felt inspired so tonight i made another piece of jewelry....

my desk models the necklace:

my neck models the necklace:

my fingers model the necklace (trying to show the sparkle!!):

the photos don't really do it justice... it's much prettier than my imagined version of it!!! me likey.

what do you all think? would you buy it? (not that i intend on making them for sale, at least i don't think so; i figure if it's good enough for someone to want to pay for it then it's pretty good.)

oh and thanks for looking! =]

3  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / birds on a wire on: November 28, 2006 10:21:56 PM
i have three best friends, and in past years i have made two of them necklaces for gifts. the third friend has been asking when she gets her necklace, as she's the only one without! i kept telling her i hadn't made her one yet because i couldn't find anything good enough that i felt suited her.

well, i work at a craft store and found these adorable tiny plastic birds in the dollhouse-making section!!! and they look like they belong on a necklace, no?

all i did was drill a hole in the neck of each bird with the tiniest drill bit i have. then connected them to 6mm and 9mm jump rings, added crystal square beads attached with 22-gauge wire, and slid it all on an 18" sterling silver chain.

dangling:

me modeling:

yay! i now have the perfect xmas present for my best friend.
sorry the pictures aren't that great -- it's hard to capture the detail in my house's crappy lighting. if only it were daylight right now.

4  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / and now, for something completely different (let's turn stuff into music) on: May 14, 2006 01:45:53 AM
yo,

so i'm sitting here at 3 am, and i just thought of an idea.

i'm in a band (http://www.myspace.com/myfutureself, so you know what i sound like) and i have been bored with my usual routine of think of tunes, think of some words, fiddle with guitar, fiddle with mandolin, hit things, butcher harmonica parts, etc. not to mention the lack of variety when i'm the only member of my little band!!

so, rather than soliciting my musician friends (who are awesome, but not as diverse as they could be -- and musicians tend to think alike), i've come up with the idea of asking craftsters for help.

if you like to write poetry/lyrics/short stories/novels, draw, paint, make collages -- really, whatever you like to do, show it to me. i just wanna be inspired by everything. writing about my own life and me, me, me gets old real quick. i'd like to make an entire album of songs based on other people's material.

i don't really have any requirements or anything. just as long as its quality work (of course i have very few doubts that it would be) and you are willing to let me use it with artistic freedom (with some conditions, if you please) then i want, need, and would LOVE to include it.

if i end up using any of your work, you'll get the credit.

i'm envisioning this as a project about people, above all. i want to break out of my little box. i want this to be the music version of learningtoloveyoumore.com. (well, that's pretty ambitious, but ya know..)

so if you can contribute in any way, speak up!!! i want a taste of it all!

5  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / my hat looks like a turnip. (or: WHY CAN'T I DO ANYTHING RIGHT?!) on: May 13, 2006 10:40:27 PM
so i knitted an earflap hat a month or so ago. it fits and everything, it's just that i used a chunky weight acrylic yarn and i think that was a big no-no, because when i wear the hat, the ear flaps kind of bend upwards! i look like i'm wearing one of those "flying nun" hats!! (image google flying nun and you'll see what im talkin about)

so, i had a fit about it, and in a frenzy i twisted and pulled the earflaps into something that resembles a turnip. i didn't mean to, i swear!

i actually like it better this way. teehee!
6  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Discussion and Questions / i can't find these dang clips!!! on: May 13, 2006 09:47:18 PM
so, last year at school i used to always see this girl wearing one of these clips in her hair:

and i know you can find those kinds of hair clips anywhere, at target or whatever, but the thing is: her clip was HUGE (like as long as your palm is wide) and red and shiny. it was soooo pretty. and a year later, i've still never found one, and its going to drive me nuts. i am growing out my hair and something like that would be perfect! i just can't find them.

i'm not even sure what the right term for that kind of hair clip is... "snap clip" i guess?

ok, well, if you could help with this nasty problem, that would be great...

 Cool Cool Cool
7  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / chalk is such a weird word... (aka: bored? carve a piece of chalk) on: March 13, 2006 02:51:58 PM
this is the result of having to watch my younger sister at home during spring break, and then finding an x-acto knife and a piece of brown chalk in the kitchen:

CHALK DOG!

in case you can't read it, it says DOG.

this was a fun little waste of time. took up about an hour of my day. it'll probably end up in a drawer somewhere...haha.  Grin
8  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / crazy hats!!! (watch out-- quite a few pictures!!) on: February 27, 2006 05:42:43 PM
so i've been feeling like hats lately ! here are the latest few:

hat #1 is the first hat with earflaps i've ever knitted, but they kind of curl in.. i think it's cause i didn't really follow the pattern because i was using much fatter yarn. oh well... it doesn't look totally ridiculous, at least.

hat #2 i made out of all the pretty yarn i've bought but had no use for:

and hat #3 is similar to #2.. it was a gift for a friend of mine (i wish i had a pic of her wearing it!! so cute! we called her polar bear when she had it on hah)

the end. i hope you all enjoyed. =]
9  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / i want to ride my bicycle!!! i want to ride my bike... on: October 22, 2005 01:59:09 PM
i recently ditched my car in favor of the more fun and more environmentally conscious bicycle... and now my best friend wants to try it too!!

SO...

I've got this old bike that was mine in about 4th grade (she's shorter than me) that I'm going to give to her for a present. it won't really be a surprise, cause she's already ridden it and we've talked about it. I told her I'd paint it, and she requested that i paint the frame white with little yellow flowers all over.

alright, i can do that. except i'm not sure what kind of paint would work best. my guts say just plain ole spray paint should work on the aluminum frame--not sure exactly what type, but i'm about 95% sure that i'll have to use some kind of spray paint. i don't know how I'm going to do something as detailed as miniature flowers with that, though, once i get the base coat of white on the bike.
10  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / cool cheap shoes. AAAIIIYA!! on: October 13, 2005 08:38:32 PM
so i've been wearing different kinds of martial arts shoes since i started lessons in 4th grade, cause they're cheap and comfy, and i figured other people might like them also.

so check out this website: http://www.wle.com//store/u_shoes.html
my favorites are the tai chi shoes, which are pretty much the same as vans slip ons (minus check pattern and $30), and the northern shaolin shoes, AKA Feivues. martial arts shoes are made to be really flexible, so if you like to feel like you're walking barefoot, they're pretty awesome. most of em are made of canvas so you can decorate them too! whee!

and those monk shoes are so damn cute. they look like something you'd see in the lord of the rings.
