1  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Re: my life goal, to make the brioche hat from weekend knitting. on: October 09, 2007 10:32:09 AM
The variegated yarn is noro kureyon, i actually used two different dye lots because i ran out of the first in the middle of the hat.
the other yarn is part lion brand worsted wool, and something else i got at my LYS...sucks but i lost the label and can't remember the brand. it's great though, maybe i can find the label 'cause it's all natural yarn and a great deal at $7 a skein. =]
2  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / my life goal, to make the brioche hat from weekend knitting. on: October 08, 2007 10:57:12 PM
and I FINALLY did it after staring at the pattern for a year and a half. it's not perfect... the decreasing at the top could have been done with more care, but toward the end of hat projects i always go nuts 'cause i can't wait to wear it. i like it anyhoo!

excuse the INSANE face...hahahaa... i realized that i can make my eyes look totally nutso by looking down when the camera's angled down. hahahah.
3  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Re: My Calorimetry! (Haha, a whole year late for the bandwagon!) on: October 06, 2007 09:20:43 PM
that is absolutely beautious!!

god i tried knitting while drunk last night. i am attempting to make a hat with brioche stitch in the round. um, DIDN'T WORK!!!! lol. i get confused enough trying to knit the thing sober. but man, that was work last night. i should try it with something more simple in the future.

it's hilarious, knitting and alcohol together...such a strange combination...
4  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Completed Projects / Re: Show Off Your Hair! on: August 13, 2007 11:38:03 PM
my hair has been through hell lately. it started in march, around spring break:

i woke up to this. can you even imagine? seriously.

so i decided to try to take advantage of this apparent natural curl (which, of course, surfaces only at the most inconvenient time.)

a month or so later. the curly thing was too damn hard to keep up, and i hate styling products anyway. so i went back to letting it hang loose.

put some light brown/ash blonde highlights in there, pushed bangs to the side, added 3-prescription-old eyeglasses: my librarian phase.

then i got a new job, which always makes me want to cut my hair. (first professional cut in over a year, btw)

subtle change...bleached the week after i got it cut.

two bleachings later, i got sick of the little wispies hanging down in my eyelashes, so i chopped those suckers off.

since then i have cut it even shorter. i now look like a ten-year-old runaway boy. and i dyed it super-ashy brown, because platinum is too high maintenance for me. my mom likes my hair better now..of course...i don't have a picture currently but i will post one soon.

i am thinking of trying this natural hair dye:

5  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / three hearts necklace on: December 01, 2006 10:41:30 PM
after making the necklace with the birds, i felt inspired so tonight i made another piece of jewelry....

my desk models the necklace:

my neck models the necklace:

my fingers model the necklace (trying to show the sparkle!!):

the photos don't really do it justice... it's much prettier than my imagined version of it!!! me likey.

what do you all think? would you buy it? (not that i intend on making them for sale, at least i don't think so; i figure if it's good enough for someone to want to pay for it then it's pretty good.)

oh and thanks for looking! =]

6  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / birds on a wire on: November 28, 2006 10:21:56 PM
i have three best friends, and in past years i have made two of them necklaces for gifts. the third friend has been asking when she gets her necklace, as she's the only one without! i kept telling her i hadn't made her one yet because i couldn't find anything good enough that i felt suited her.

well, i work at a craft store and found these adorable tiny plastic birds in the dollhouse-making section!!! and they look like they belong on a necklace, no?

all i did was drill a hole in the neck of each bird with the tiniest drill bit i have. then connected them to 6mm and 9mm jump rings, added crystal square beads attached with 22-gauge wire, and slid it all on an 18" sterling silver chain.

dangling:

me modeling:

yay! i now have the perfect xmas present for my best friend.
sorry the pictures aren't that great -- it's hard to capture the detail in my house's crappy lighting. if only it were daylight right now.

10  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Re: Wishlist Swap - July 2006 on: June 30, 2006 02:14:31 PM
ello,

i am seventeen, and live in Texas near Dallas/Ft. Worth. i play guitar and mandolin, i collect zines (and make one occasionally), and i will try just about any craft once.

WISHLIST

first off, here's the link to my wist: http://www.wists.com/eighdrien it's still a baby, so there's not much to see, but it is a pretty good representation of my taste.

kits

+a DIY spinning kit. i want to make a scarf from my cat's fur. LOL...

+ a DIY woodcarving kit. i've wanted to try it since i was little but i just don't know where to start. even if you just have a woodcarving tool, send that. i have blocks of wood all over my house.

un-handmade

+ books -- fiction, nonfiction, coffee table books about nature, architecture, etc. i love writing in the style of dave eggers and jonathan safran foer. kind of like non-fiction-that-almost-wasn't. i also love any kind of instructional books, like how to meditate. just an example.

+ the newest issue of ReadyMade -- my subscription is up! no stores in my area carry it! Cry

+ craft magazines -- knitting, fiber art, or something completely new to me, if you wish! they don't have to be current.

+ zines. i don't care what they are about. if you have too many to count, like me, then maybe you want to get rid of some?? teehee. thanks to veganxwater  Cool

+ harmonica. if it's a piece of crap, send it. i can fix it. i don't care what key it is in. i need harmonicas!!

+ stickers. i've decided that life is more enjoyable with an abundance of stickers, so send away. the only kind of stickers i would not particularly enjoy are George Dubya stickers, or circus-themed stickers. thanks icebyrd67!!!

handmade

+ anything handmade with owls, deer, trees, freight trains, or cute little sailboats on it! oh and fruit too!

+ felt dolls. i'm a fan of the deformed/monster-ish looking ones, or personified food objects, or personified trees, etc. really anything that's cute, i will love it. thanks tigarlilly!!

+ some kind of stationery. see above for hints on themes  Cool

+ something you love to make. i think it is very interesting to see what others do well. it doesn't have to be a tangible craft -- if you are in a band, send your music, if you like photography, send some photos. and so on.

+ anything handmade that goes on a head!! honestly, i'm always covering my head with stuff lately. hats, headbands, blah blah blah. i love cute things like hair clips with eggplants on them, for example.

+handmade soap

+ an ipod cozy - i just got a 30gb video ipod, and i think it needs a cozy, but i think someone else could do it better than me. err. maybe an undersea theme! that would be cool. thanks Trip_and_fall!!!

+ a mix cd of your favorite music. (I'm keeping this one up!)

Supplies

+ Noro Kureyon!! in some bright colors. I just cannot find this stuff anywhere and i don't like to buy yarn online (it can get dangerous!) maybe somebody's got some laying around that she (he?) doesn't use.

+ size 8 wooden circular needles, preferably 24", but whatever, really. someone stole mine! =[
