1  my life goal, to make the brioche hat from weekend knitting. in Knitting: Completed Projects by ilovegenewilder on: October 08, 2007 10:57:12 PM
and I FINALLY did it after staring at the pattern for a year and a half. it's not perfect... the decreasing at the top could have been done with more care, but toward the end of hat projects i always go nuts 'cause i can't wait to wear it. i like it anyhoo!

excuse the INSANE face...hahahaa... i realized that i can make my eyes look totally nutso by looking down when the camera's angled down. hahahah.

2  Re: Show Off Your Hair! in Bath and Beauty: Completed Projects by ilovegenewilder on: August 13, 2007 11:38:03 PM
my hair has been through hell lately. it started in march, around spring break:

i woke up to this. can you even imagine? seriously.

so i decided to try to take advantage of this apparent natural curl (which, of course, surfaces only at the most inconvenient time.)

a month or so later. the curly thing was too damn hard to keep up, and i hate styling products anyway. so i went back to letting it hang loose.

put some light brown/ash blonde highlights in there, pushed bangs to the side, added 3-prescription-old eyeglasses: my librarian phase.

then i got a new job, which always makes me want to cut my hair. (first professional cut in over a year, btw)

subtle change...bleached the week after i got it cut.

two bleachings later, i got sick of the little wispies hanging down in my eyelashes, so i chopped those suckers off.

since then i have cut it even shorter. i now look like a ten-year-old runaway boy. and i dyed it super-ashy brown, because platinum is too high maintenance for me. my mom likes my hair better now..of course...i don't have a picture currently but i will post one soon.

i am thinking of trying this natural hair dye:

3  three hearts necklace in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General by ilovegenewilder on: December 01, 2006 10:41:30 PM
after making the necklace with the birds, i felt inspired so tonight i made another piece of jewelry....

my desk models the necklace:

my neck models the necklace:

my fingers model the necklace (trying to show the sparkle!!):

the photos don't really do it justice... it's much prettier than my imagined version of it!!! me likey.

what do you all think? would you buy it? (not that i intend on making them for sale, at least i don't think so; i figure if it's good enough for someone to want to pay for it then it's pretty good.)

oh and thanks for looking! =]

4  birds on a wire in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General by ilovegenewilder on: November 28, 2006 10:21:56 PM
i have three best friends, and in past years i have made two of them necklaces for gifts. the third friend has been asking when she gets her necklace, as she's the only one without! i kept telling her i hadn't made her one yet because i couldn't find anything good enough that i felt suited her.

well, i work at a craft store and found these adorable tiny plastic birds in the dollhouse-making section!!! and they look like they belong on a necklace, no?

all i did was drill a hole in the neck of each bird with the tiniest drill bit i have. then connected them to 6mm and 9mm jump rings, added crystal square beads attached with 22-gauge wire, and slid it all on an 18" sterling silver chain.

dangling:

me modeling:

yay! i now have the perfect xmas present for my best friend.
sorry the pictures aren't that great -- it's hard to capture the detail in my house's crappy lighting. if only it were daylight right now.

5  my hat looks like a turnip. (or: WHY CAN'T I DO ANYTHING RIGHT?!) in Knitting: Completed Projects by ilovegenewilder on: May 13, 2006 10:40:27 PM
so i knitted an earflap hat a month or so ago. it fits and everything, it's just that i used a chunky weight acrylic yarn and i think that was a big no-no, because when i wear the hat, the ear flaps kind of bend upwards! i look like i'm wearing one of those "flying nun" hats!! (image google flying nun and you'll see what im talkin about)

so, i had a fit about it, and in a frenzy i twisted and pulled the earflaps into something that resembles a turnip. i didn't mean to, i swear!

i actually like it better this way. teehee!

6  Re: The Art of Makeup in Bath and Beauty: Discussion and Questions by ilovegenewilder on: May 13, 2006 10:08:41 PM
i rarely wear makeup on a day-to-day basis, especially since i gave away my GIANT makeup collection (i'd been acquiring things since sixth grade. i really regret giving it away. poo.), but when i do, i do strange things with it. i mean, hey, it's kind of like a mask, right?

i deleted a lot of my better pictures, but here's a few i found...

fun eyeshadow stuff. the colors were more vibrant than they look!!! =]

this isn't super extreme, but it makes my face look very different, which is interesting because it's really not that much makeup. just the colors i guess.

and this might look like i'm not wearing much makeup at all, but if you saw me every day, you'd notice that in this picture i'm wearing a crapload of mascara and there are fake freckles all over my face. fake freckles are probably my favorite. i have a few, but not enough, dammit!

i'm enjoying this thread!! hopefully i can dig up some fancier pictures.

7  i can't find these dang clips!!! in Bath and Beauty: Discussion and Questions by ilovegenewilder on: May 13, 2006 09:47:18 PM
so, last year at school i used to always see this girl wearing one of these clips in her hair:

and i know you can find those kinds of hair clips anywhere, at target or whatever, but the thing is: her clip was HUGE (like as long as your palm is wide) and red and shiny. it was soooo pretty. and a year later, i've still never found one, and its going to drive me nuts. i am growing out my hair and something like that would be perfect! i just can't find them.

i'm not even sure what the right term for that kind of hair clip is... "snap clip" i guess?

ok, well, if you could help with this nasty problem, that would be great...

 Cool Cool Cool

8  Re: the tiniest ysolda in the world in CHALLENGE 9 ENTRIES by ilovegenewilder on: May 11, 2006 03:47:48 PM
well.. i actually did make a doll! i was just so amazed by the idea, i couldn't wait to do it, so i started the head/face last night. i worked on it all today and just finished it an hour ago.

one leg is longer than the other!! oops! lol.

i don't want to flood this board with pictures, so that's all.

i tried not to copy your tiny knitted hat idea, ysolda (i figured the whole doll was enough, haha) but it seemed like the only solution to cover up the weirdness of the hair on top of the head. mine got all spiky and scratchy cause of the superglue i used. did you have that problem?

thanks!

9  chalk is such a weird word... (aka: bored? carve a piece of chalk) in Completed Projects by ilovegenewilder on: March 13, 2006 02:51:58 PM
this is the result of having to watch my younger sister at home during spring break, and then finding an x-acto knife and a piece of brown chalk in the kitchen:

CHALK DOG!

in case you can't read it, it says DOG.

this was a fun little waste of time. took up about an hour of my day. it'll probably end up in a drawer somewhere...haha.  Grin

10  crazy hats!!! (watch out-- quite a few pictures!!) in Knitting: Completed Projects by ilovegenewilder on: February 27, 2006 05:42:43 PM
so i've been feeling like hats lately ! here are the latest few:

hat #1 is the first hat with earflaps i've ever knitted, but they kind of curl in.. i think it's cause i didn't really follow the pattern because i was using much fatter yarn. oh well... it doesn't look totally ridiculous, at least.

hat #2 i made out of all the pretty yarn i've bought but had no use for:

and hat #3 is similar to #2.. it was a gift for a friend of mine (i wish i had a pic of her wearing it!! so cute! we called her polar bear when she had it on hah)

the end. i hope you all enjoyed. =]
