11  Princess Leia Baby Bonnet in Knitting: Completed Projects by prettyfloralbonnet on: August 30, 2007 05:03:46 PM

Modeled by the ever helpful but unfortunately not baby-sized helper monkey.

So I got the crazy idea to make a baby bonnet for Evie that looked like Princess Leia.  As I lie awake at night wishing for sleep these are the strange things that go through my head.  A few days later and we have her Princess Leia Baby Bonnet.

Pattern: My Own, Ill try to write it out if anyone is interested.

Yarn: Vannas Choice in chocolate.  Since it was a trial I dont mind using leftover acrylic yarn.

Needles: Size 6 straights and size 4 DPNs for the buns.

Tied with a ribbon but I think I prefer an i-cord.

Closeup on the blog, as always if anyone cares.

I knit my still-as-yet-unborn Evie's pinwheel sweater with this, including the lovely mustard. For anyone interested in how it knit up:

and closeups and such on my blog.  I really liked the yarn, and I'd recommend it if you don't mind acrylic.  It's rather soft and not fusty.

I got more yarn to make another one.  This time around I want to use around 3 colors, so I picked up purple and pink and have a lot of grey left from the first.  It looks white in the photo, but it's grey!  If I run out of yarn, I'll finish it with either white or cream, also left over from the first one.

Thanks Dulcinea!  Next time I do this project or one using that tech, I'll see if I can't figure out how to do it knit instead of purl.  Or maybe just track you down!

Here's my finished sweater!

(Cross posted in completed projects)
Lots more photos and info including modifications here:

I can't wait to see what everyone else comes up with, and as soon as I have some money I'll be making another one!  Or I may just make another one with the leftover yarn, there's quite a lot!

15  Unborn Evie's Pinwheel Sweater in Knitting: Completed Projects by prettyfloralbonnet on: August 18, 2007 11:26:35 AM

Pattern: http://www.elann.com/ShowFreePattern.asp?Id=138024
Yarn: Vanna's Choice

This was my first big project, and my first circular project and I'm so excited to be able to share it!

I started Monday August 13th around 6pm and finished Friday August 17th around 10pm. Of course I didnt knit constantly and Ive been extremely sick all week, but thats a fast project. My husband didnt put it down last night, he told me how proud of me he was and how great it looked and what an artist I am, etc. Thats a good feeling. I cant wait for photos of Evie in her new jacket. Im ready for her to be born!

There are about a million more photos and information, including modifications and how to (I think) easily do the armhole/sleeves on my blog.  http://knittingnoob.wordpress.com/2007/08/18/you-spin-me-right-round-baby/

ruby_soho, I did a search but couldn't find an MST3k blanket, can you share more info?  My husband would die (r2d2 and mst3k my gosh!)

Elann's pinwheel sweater, I'm over halfway done!

Here's a close up of the yarn.  Im using it for the Elann's pinwheel sweater.  I quite like it, for acrylic, and definitely like it for the price.  It was indeed 2.99 but I saw someone mentioned a sale?  Is this sale price or is someone's Michael's selling it even cheaper?

19  Great Geeky R2D2 Beanie! in Knitting: Completed Projects by prettyfloralbonnet on: August 13, 2007 04:14:17 PM

Don't you love it!  (Don't mind the weird cross-eyed photo I took)

The pattern is a combination of a craftster and megaknits pattern. I also used white instead of the called-for grey. Grey just doesnt look right to me.

Its too big for my head, which is great since its for my husband. I wanted to get it done while he is out of town and he will be home in about 2 hours so good timing! I just need to stick it on his head and see if I need to pick up even more stitches for his huge head before I seam it up.

Now I need to make one for me and the boys!

The yarn was Vanna's Choice - I'm no yarn snob!  And this was nice to work with actually - except the red which was just some scrap yarn.  I'd say this took about 20ish hours to do.

Lots and lots of photos and the hilarious first failed attempt on my blog.  http://knittingnoob.wordpress.com/2007/08/13/r2d2-beanie-complete-almost/

Im almost done with the R2D2 Beanie for DH, I wanted it done before he comes home from Texas and I think it will be!

Also a scarf for my MIL thats been on the needles for a few weeks now.  I got bored with it.  As long as it's done before Xmas thats all that matters.
