1  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / pink is not usually my color- T to dress on: July 26, 2007 01:27:27 PM
I was inspired by all the cool giant-t-to-dress recons on here, so here's my contribution.

The things that are different are the cool-blue tie, and that I gathered the waistline rather than trust myself to accurately guestimate a good a-line.

This is the finished product, I used the collar to make the straps and some scrap x-fine t-shirt knit to make the ties. Sorry it's such an icky pic.

The color is actually more like this tho... you can see the way the ties are connected and the skirt bottom with the basting for the gathers.

My only problem is that I can't find my seam ripper, so you can see the gathering basting on the finished dress. I know it's around here somewhere, so I will fix that soon. Wink

2  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / These lovely sheets had to be a dress... on: July 21, 2007 04:57:34 PM
So I bought these really pretty sheets at the thrift store a couple of months ago, and made a dress out of them. But it was horrid. It should have been lined and maybe had interfacing, but I didn't, so it looks really bad. (except on the hangar, it looks great on the hangar)... and I was soooo disappointed.
But, this week, I thought I would try again, I had plenty of material left over, and a much better new pile of flesh, Simplicity 3777, here it is:

the original dress had the opposite scheme (mostly purple)

this is my first fully lined dress and I made the lining hem cute, with lace.

And, the lovely zipper shot, I don't have a zipper foot, so it's always fun sewing zippers.

(mirror shots are gross, sorry!)
