Wow lots of pretties!!

Here are my first two received bookmarks!! Thank you itchyfingers (quilted) and Homer of 2 (counted cross stitch). They arrived safe and sound from Canada in record time!

My apologies to itchyfingers and Homerof2...I've been dealing with a sick kiddo and just haven't gotten online in the last couple days.  Embarrassed  Also, my pics are rubbish. We've had fog for the past two weeks, so "natural light" has been in short supply. Really unusual for us, but there you go.

Just catching up here...ironically, I failed to "bookmark" this thread and therefor failed to keep up with it!

But now: Wow! I am loving all the creative and beautiful bookmarks! Very impressive -- and anxiety inducing, too.

I have received two bookmarks so far. I'll be posting pics later today (gotta get the batteries re-charged).

Pretty sure I'm done with all 4; I had to re-do them, just because something moved the nanosecond before laminating! grrrrr. Oh well, I actually had an "ah-ha" moment and made a fun embellishment.

Will definitely be sending on Tuesday! Oh, just remembered, I'd better get pics before then!

7  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / Wonky Nine Patch on: January 14, 2010 02:18:17 PM
Made this a couple of years ago, but didn't get pictures until now!

It's a wonky nine patch "pattern" -- instructions actually -- from a UK magazine (sorry, pretty sure it's British Patchwork & Quilting, but don't have the issue number). The wonky sashing is my own contribution.

To do the blocks, you need two squares of fabric, for this quilt I used 14.5" squares, one white and one patterned. Place them face up on top of each other. Then use a ruler (or not) and make the cuts. Be sure to have at least 2.5" from any edge/other cut. Two cuts horizontal, two cuts vertical. Then switch out the pieces so you have two blocks: one with five patterned pieces and four solids, and the other has five solid and four patterned. The blue blocks show what I'm talking about.

I totally recommend doing just two blocks at a time. Cuts down on the confusion.

Then I did free motion quilting in the blocks and on the border, but not in the sashing. Gives the back a 'sashed window' look.

Also, the backing is a fine wale/needle wale corduroy. Scrumptious! The white isn't terribly user friendly (especially when it's for a toddler), but it holds up pretty well anyway. It was an Easter gift for my tyke, so it mostly gets displayed on the quilt rack outside her room rather than played with too much. Don't worry, she has plenty of other quilts and blankets that get plenty of her love (and apple juice, and blueberry stains, and, and, and.... Wink ).

I had prepared my items, and figured I could make up the bookmarks tomorrow (Wednesday). Then I went to the thrift store today and found the. perfect. thing. for this swap!! Soooo, looks like I'll be re-working the bookmarks tomorrow, hopefully finish up and mail by Friday.

Yay!

Man this thread is moving *fast*!!

Thanks for being so quick and *good* with partnering!! I'd initially had an idea, but that has blossomed into something else...I'll be taking the weekend to decide which option, or mix, to do.

Looking forward to some tyke-free crafting time next week. Between her illness, my flu, snow days and holidays, it's been *ages* since I've been able to sew/craft/think without a smart/charming/demanding little redhead at my side.  Cheesy

Very impressed that someone's done with (at least) one already!

I go through phases with books...biographies are a big phase. So many interesting people. A lot of people who think they're interesting, too.  Wink

It's been ages (not really, but seems like it) since I've read a book geared toward anyone over the age of four. A lot of my (non-biographical) reading seems to happen on vacation. I like to pop in to charity shops and pick up a couple fiction books. Usually return them to a shop, too. Sometimes I'll bring home a book or two and share with friends here.

I'm another one who reads craft and cook books. Have a stack of books to return to the library -- better remember that soon. They're already wayyy over due. oops!
