So in Canada your Sparks would be our Rainbows. I didn't know that, I'd heard of Daisy scouts. I think it would be good to keep the swap in the junior section of guiding if there was enough interest.
Rainbows haven't been going very long in England only about 15 years, so I went straight into Brownies when I was a little girl.
I had a hat too! In England sections go Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, Rangers. The uniform is much less formal looking here now and none of them wear hats anymore.
It would be nice if the girls could get to see pictures of other units/girls in their uniforms with their swap packages as part of the swap, in the Uk we also have a special badge to give/swap with international friends. Perhaps the crafts we swap could be inspired by the different section names, we're always making ”rainbow” related crafts this end.
I'm sort of thinking as I'm typing here. I run a Rainbow group (Englands equivilant to Daisy Scouts) girl guides aged 5-7
Our mascot, is a cuddly rabbit. I don't know if other groups around the world have mascots? I was wondering if we could do some sort of craft swap around the world with other scout/guide groups, where possibly our mascots could travel the world visiting each other and collect a craft from each group to travel with them as they went.
I'm sure the girls would love to recieve crafts from groups in other countries and send their crafts to your group too.
Ahhh yes knife pleats. If theres a pleat more elegant, more beautiful I have yet to find discover it. I can't believe thats denim it looks like velvet in the pics, oh so stylish.
This might not be what you want, but a third year from my Ceramics degree course just had her final show. Red glazes are always tricky and often expensive in ceramics so we were quizzing her about the red she'd created for her work, she confided that she actually used nail varnish
Do not assume that shiny transparent glazes are food safe. It completely depends on which ingredients are within the glaze and there are many poisonous ones. I would not recommend doing the spagetti sauce test that tcmatteson suggests, it would be much safer to just research the ingredients that are in your glaze recipe and wether they are poisionous. Don't take chances with your health, many glaze ingredients are very toxic and carcenogenic.
