22  CLOTHING / Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects / from circa 1971 ruffle mess to.... on: October 06, 2007 08:26:56 PM
...my husband's aunt passed this dress down to us when we had our daughter 8 yrs ago.  seems like i remember her girls wore it or something way back when.  i had one pic taken in it for her sake, and then tucked it away.   she just had a great granddaugher! and not wanting to pass the torture along...i updated it!

23  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / large men's Sprite shirt into cute DRESS! [pic heavy, action shots!] on: October 05, 2007 04:03:21 PM
for my sprout.  i was practicing before i redid her school shirt to fit her better.  grabbed this shirt out of my drawer, a tie off my dress for the belt.   I think it turned out really cute!

(she's was trying to be model-ish!  LOL)
24  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / My scoodies! w/ FUN FUR, really FUN fur. [IMG Morbid obese] on: October 02, 2007 07:22:04 PM
thanks so much vegbee for the tute!  they are going to make great xmas gifts.
i used turquoise (hubby called it cookie monster) fun fur and random fabrics...all from joann's half off red tag fabrics. yay.  only spent $17 for 9 hoods, and have enough to make one more even! the first two were made with a vintage fabric and some squares i got in a swap.
modeled by my sprout with her huge noggin!

25  IMAGE REPRODUCTION TECHNIQUES / Stenciling: Completed Projects / Cassette Shirt! with a booboo on: September 30, 2007 08:32:55 PM
front.  love the way it turned out.

back. or what you do when you forgot to put cardboard in the shirt before you painted the front!  oops.   you just turn your stencil over and cover up the bleed through with another stencil!   i should have maybe been more creative and done some wording or something, but i was pissed about screwing up.  but i guess it works!
26  CROCHET / Amigurumi: Completed Projects / Meet "Moldy": the saddest amigurumi EVER made on: September 28, 2007 05:22:55 PM
i havent picked up my crochet hook in years.  i dont even know if i was doing a SC or not!   I was trying to do the magic ring for the first time ever.  dreaming of the day that i too would make some sweet little thing.   so i picked up the nearest yarn...some chunky two colored homespun mess...and kept going around.  i couldnt really tell where any of the stitches were, but i kept going.  and it started forming a lumpy circle.  i had given him half a life, i continued.  stuffed him with the tails.  he asked for eyes and a mouth so i obliged.
poor guy.  i named him Moldy.

ETA:  i should add that i have NO idea how it turned into a semi sphere.  seriously no clue.  i wish i did though!  HA!
27  COOKING / Dessert / CHOCOLATE UPDATE!!!!!!!!Cherry flavored POPCORN!! on: September 27, 2007 05:29:44 PM
hubby is diabetic, so i used sugar free jello, but i imagine the regular stuff would work fine too.
Air-popped the popcorn (there is also some way with a brown bag and a microwave to make plain???)
sprayed it with butter flavored cooking spray.  tossed with with just a dash of salt and then the whole packet of gelatin, a little at a time.  spray more as needed.
[ETA: the part that is missing]
bake on a cookie sheet at 350 degrees for a few minutes.  Watch it carefully!!!  You just want it to melt the jello a little bit, not scortch it!  (and mine started smoking a little....relax, just a LITTLE because i should have taken it out sooner)
I didnt bother making it a single layer on the cookie sheet either.
Its really good.  I also am going to try Lime with extra salt!
( i wish I could remember where I got this idea so that I could give credit)

28  HOME SWEET HOME / Interior Decorating: Discussion and Questions / Design rule for making things look put-together? on: September 27, 2007 12:19:07 PM
My tastes are so scatterbrained.   I love retro and mod design but with traditional shapes.  my new fav color is aqua.   i want to redo our kitchen and living room, but I dont know how to narrow down my ideas so that it doesn't end up looking crappy.    I like purposeful mismatching...love it in fact.   But I have a hard time making it look purposeful.
I need RULES!!!!
29  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / WAIST Bag aka Hipslinger aka fanny pack [pic fat] on: September 26, 2007 11:01:31 PM
i am making these for xmas gifts.   the fabrics are from my nana's old tapestry fabric stash and they are for less than totally hip peeps, so they are just right and conservative for them.

firstly, i made a tag for them, because they are being sent away to people and i won't be there to explain them.

this first one i like the best.  shiny gold alligator lining.  button holes and a giant funky button to fasten the belt.

bumblebees? wasps?  cool big pink button anyway.

humming birds and roses and stuff.

30  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / Thomas the Train on: September 18, 2007 12:52:47 PM
3 down one to go!
blah...four yr old wanted to Be Thomas.  He was almost going to be a fisherman to fish his brother...which is funny if you saw my last costume!  HA!
But he defaulted to Thomas.  Of course, like any good 4 yr old would!
reconned from an old shirt of mine that was the perfect color and then scrapped together with my stash of scraps.  all zigged-zagged on.  face is zig-zagged as well.   ribbon as straps.  made an iron on patch with thomas and friends that he insisted had to go on front because he couldnt turn his head all the way around to see it on the back where I wanted it! ha!

He did not want me to take a picture though.
I snuck one.

edited out our messy kitchen! LOL

ETS: man what a load of typos!  ha!

ETA: yea. you got that right.  i have to edit my edit! ETS?!  wow.
