okay, so i found this pattern online:
http://home.att.net/~susanBinKC/patterns/ripple.htmlso i've been working on this blanket, but i laid it out last night, and i don't know how i didn't realize what was going on the whole time, but it's completely wrong.

i don't know if you can see very well in the picture, but the problem is that each time i did a row, i think i added stitches to the end, so that while it started with six extra stitches at the bottom, by now there are like twenty some stitches after the last peak, which means that the blanket it shaped like a trapezoid instead of a rectangle.
now, i still can't figure out how i did that, or how i managed to get so far without realizing the problem, but now i'm basically freaking out, because i wanted this to be done by christmas, but... if i keep going like i am, the blanket will be shaped just awful, because it'll get massive at the top. if i start trying to make it straight now, then the bottom will look ridiculous. my roommate suggested just starting from the bottom and making another trapezoid going outward in the opposite direction, but i think that would be a ridiculous shape. so what do i do? i'm afraid i'm going to have to rip it all out and start over if i want a rectangle, but there's even a problem with that, because i don't know how it got so angled to begin with, and so i don't know how i would remedy the problem if i started over.
so... please. any advice would be so appreciated.
