Hey. You are so very right about the terrible things that have happened elsewhere with this weird weather, and I am really trying to keep that thought front and center, and count my blessings (which are many).
My mom is in a skilled nursing facility, and the house is in a "living trust", with no money to fund it. I can't sell it or rent it out, and I have to pay for everything I deem necessary. We lost shingles, gutters, and leaf guards, and had lots of glass damaged. We now have to install a sump pump as the basement has gotten lots of water in for the first time. The chimney was in need of replacement and the plan was to eliminate it and install a high-efficiency furnace instead... just not right now.
So there's my sad story, and the pity party is now over.
