1  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Crafty Business Discussion / Help with photography and shipping on: July 16, 2008 10:02:14 AM
Hi all! Grin
Sooo I'm working on my Etsy and need some advice on taking pictures of my items to use on the website.  I have a 14mp DSLR camera (that I'm still learning how to use), but I've tried pictures in several parts of my apartment, inside and out, and I can't get a really good, clear photo.  If anyone has any hints or suggestions, I'd appreciate it!
My other question is regarding shipping.  Shipping can get expensive fast, so I was wondering if there was an option that saves money.  I'd like to ship everything USPS Priority Mail, but to charge enough to cover that for a $6 pair of earrings seems ridiculous.
All input, advice, and help is welcome and appreciated!
Thanks!

Update: I just wanted to add that I'm photographing small items (jewelry) and clothing as well, in case that helps.
2  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Origami, cherries, and a couple of pink frogs for good measure on: June 24, 2008 07:27:11 AM

The cranes look wrinkled...which is odd.  They aren't.  Must be the lighting.

Just a few new items I've made and posted.  I'm slooooowly uploading pictures of the huge boxful of things I've made and haven't had time to post.  This is, of course, hampered by the fact that I keep making MORE.  Smiley
Nothing fancy, though I do like the frogs.  Smiley
Comments, criticism, etc are welcome!
3  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Discussion and Questions / Blythe Beauty Contest 2008 on: January 10, 2008 04:19:24 PM
I don't know if this has been posted before, so I apologize if it has.  There are so many of you who do fantastic remakes of these dolls, so I thought I'd post a link to their 2008 contest in case you don't know about it.  This isn't something that I'll do, but with all of you who do, someone here should win!

4  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / Types of flour... on: January 04, 2008 10:28:13 AM
I got the Hello Kitty waffle maker for Christmas (WOOT!) and I was looking at the recipe info and it calls for "weak" and "strong" flour...I have no idea what this means.  I'm assuming it's an alternate name for one of the dozens of types of flour I already know, but I don't have a clue what it is.  Help! Huh
5  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Discussion and Questions / Wyr Knittr? on: August 25, 2007 09:03:05 PM
Does anyone else have one of these "tools?"  I bought one thinking it would make knitting with wire so much easier, but I just cannot get the hang of the thing.  Maybe it's just me, but I have followed the directions to the letter several times and I always end up with a mess.  Has anyone successfully used one?
6  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / B&W, cranes, etc on: August 25, 2007 01:49:50 PM
So this is my first post w/completed stuff.  I have tons of jewelry I could post, but that would take way too much time. Smiley  I've been doing the cranes for a while and had no idea so many people were doing the same until I found Craftster a month or so ago.  Oh well!
Here are a few pieces I've done today:

Enjoy! My camera is not the best and everything looks strange, but you get the general idea.
7  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Beaded spider on: August 16, 2007 11:57:42 AM
Ok, so here's my first attempt:

I LOOOVE these spiders, but I'm not really satisfied with mine.  Is there a trick to getting the tension to hold the legs in place?
