How about sewing in the top "hem" of those pincushion/scrapbags to hold the scrapbag open? (I use strapping from newspaper bundles in mine). 
Or, would it work for corset stays?  I saw a post by a Craftster that used zip ties for stays...  your stuff looks pretty flexible, though, so it might not hold its shape well enough.

Thanks!  I just couldn't figure out the shape of the side "pouches".  Wonder if my sewing machine can handle the thicker leather.  Guess we'll find out.  If the one I use everyday doesn't work, I have some old cast iron Singers that can sew through bone!  Now gotta figure out how to draft that pattern in the right size.

Yes, it should be permanent, but hand-washed only (no dishwasher). I used Oracal 651, which is a permanent vinyl that you can buy online or at sign-making businesses (I found mine in Eugene, Oregon at Multi-Craft Plastics, at their regular low prices)

I have a Silhouette SD paper cutting machine, and they've recently updated the computer program that operates the machine so there's some learnin' going on.  I've seen these plates here on Craftster but they were hand-painted, something that I have failed at :^(   But I figured out how to make it using the Silhouette and new program.  My granddaughter helped me by "scraping" the "sticker" onto the plate and then we proceeded to play with our lunch.

CUTE!  And great idea with the ties.  How 'bout finding some largish buttons in a dark blue or brown, say maybe four (two for each side) and sew them onto the neckline for a little definition and "bling"? 

Where's the Roasting Pan?  Perhaps in the craft room holding supplies?
