1  Dress-up closet collaboration in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by CreativeGenes on: January 23, 2010 08:36:42 AM
I had so much fun crafting and shopping for the grands this year! The favorite, hands down, was Lauryn's present. It was one of those few (for me anyway) things that actually came out better than I imagined, due in no small part to the help from my sweetie. Poppa really kicked it up a notch! I had been waiting, yes and planning, for the day the girls would be big enough for dress up. When I found out that is what Lauryn wanted for Christmas I was so excited!
I started shopping right after Halloween and got some great deals on costumes. I found a fireman, a pirate, a vampire, a witch, a princess, and of course the requisite Disney gals. Got a great deal on some dress up shoes and tiaras after Thanksgiving, throw in a few necklaces and earrings and what little girl would not be thrilled!
But wait......
"how bout a wardrobe packing box to make her a dress up closet?" said MamMaw "I could cut doors to make it a closet."
"I could cover it in fabric if you have a piece" volunteered Poppa. "We could also add a spot for her shoes and a shelf for her jewelry" he said.
"YAY! That's a great idea honey." says MamMaw running for the fabric stash.
Two days, four yards of fabric, a box cutter, antibiotic ointment, band-aids, and three cans of spray adhesive later......
Ta DA!!!!! Lauryn's dress up closet.

and open

I love collaborating with my sweetie. Can't wait to do one for Kyleigh next year!
Thanks for looking!
C  & C welcome.

I finally finished the I-Spy bag for the 1st Grand.
I have not filled it with rice & goodies (although I have them ready) as I don't want any mishaps before Christmas. I used a panel piece inside in case it ever peeks through the rice.

This is another panel piece from the same line I used for the back.

It only looks wonky because the side is still open for filling.
I will kill me to wait until Christmas to give him these things. It's a good thing his birthday has already passed.

Finally finished something for the oldest grandson this month.
He LOVES to "PITE" (write), so MamMaw made him a "to go book".

Now I just have to wait till Christmas to give it to him!

I love this idea. I just read through all 26 pages and I am in!
Every year at Christmas I say, "I am starting on next Christmas in January!". I never have.....till now. I have started on a dozen ornaments (sweat shoppe style).
I love the mittens everyone is knitting but it has been a looong time since I held a knitting needle so I decided to use felt, ribbons, glitter, and sequins. I found my inspiration while searching for felt ornaments but can't find it right now to give credit. Hopefully I will have a few finished tonight or tomorrow so I can post a pic.
Thanks for the motivation & inspiration!
First Pair Finished!

Melyssa_Marie so glad you found some things you like. Since I unpacked your box to take pics before I sent, thought I would post them for you. Hope thats okay.
First up the mug, it was so cute how sweetie wanted to be in on the giving too!

Some embroidery supplies

Some odds and ends supplies, including a Tunisian crochet hook she was wanting.

Notions

Books

Patterns

Scraps and fabric

I really enjoyed packing all my excess into a box for someone I knew would use and enjoy it.
InstantKarma, thanks so much for hosting this swap!

I finally made one!

It is for my little sister. I hope she likes it as much as I do.
Now I just have to find the time to make me one.
Ghilie, thanks so much for sharing!

Thank you for the kind words.

Any tips if I were to tackle this myself?
Use small stitches so when it frays you don't lose a seam.
Leave about 1/4" inside when you cut out your design and then clip almost to your seam every eighth of an inch or so all around.
When you wash it throw in a towel or some jeans to speed the fraying.
Check your lint trap often.
I usually wash it once, trim it, and wash again.
I made some stockings for Christmas like this and they were so cute. I did a Hello Kitty for the stocking swap,

a boy and girl snowman for a commission,

and a Santa for the grandboy. I am going to try a quilt next.
It is a very versatile and forgiving technique. Just go for it.

8  Reverse Applique denim alphabet block in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by CreativeGenes on: February 04, 2008 09:31:46 AM

The grandboy will be turning one this weekend.
This is my favorite of all the gifts I made him. It turned out even better than I imagined (and that doesn't happen often!) so I had to share. All the letter in his name are on his block. I can wait to give it to him.

My partner received a while ago but has been having camera issues. I said I would post what I took before sending.
She told me she was "obsessed" with Hello Kitty and anything girlie.
The stocking, reverse applique

Close up of Kitty

A sewing scarf

A crocheted scarf

Daydreams and Nightmares topsy-turvy doll

Wallet

Hairclips

And hairpins

Ornaments

Some embroidered patches

and some iron-on transfers for her projects.

I didn't get a pic of the bought goodies I sent.
I had a great partner and had a lot of fun crafting for her.
