1  Re: 50 Projects 2010 in Craftalongs by raslalique on: February 16, 2010 08:35:00 AM
This is my fifth project. It is a large tote-bag made of thick velvet.

I made it large enough to accommodate my wide screen laptop since my regular bags can't fit it properly. The handles are heavy duty chain from the hardware store. The fabric is gathered towards the top of the bag (very difficult to photograph properly Sad) which I thought would be a great contrast against the cutesy gathered velvet. I also used a heavy duty zipper which ties in the look just fine.

This bag was a beast to sew though. I broke two needles and finally decided to sew in the lining by hand. My poor machine couldn't handle all that upholstery weight velvet and several layers if interfacing! The lining is electric blue. It makes me happy every time I open my bag  Grin

2  Re: Spot and finish off those UFO's along in Craftalongs by raslalique on: January 28, 2010 07:53:25 PM
Hey gang!

I finished my first ufo.
I had been making a top and I goofed up and cut out a deep neckline both on the front and the back. I didn't have enough material to make a new back  and the shirt would have been too low cut in the back for work (which is where I wanted to wear it). I set it aside thinking I would come up with a solution and there it sat in my sewing stash for 2 years! Anyhoo, it's done now and I love it a lot. I did wear it in today since I didn't have to interact with the students today and I would only be in half the day.

Here's the back

Watch this space for more projects from my ufo pile of doom   Grin.

Hi guys. This thread is growing so fast! Over a 120 pages already. Here is what I have so far.

1. Metallic vinyl cushions. The vinyl is so soft and supple that I thought the cushions would look great if I draped the fabric over the bolster cushions instead of just making regular bolster cushions. The apple green cushion is sewn together in sections until the fabric fits the size of the bolster cushion. The lighting doesn't capture the gentle folds as well as I would like sadly but you get the general idea.

The gold cushion is gathered using elastic and embellished with gold studs.

2. Green top that had been unfinished for about 2 years.

3. Sterling silver wire with sky blue bead dreadlock cuff.

This is so exciting. I can't wait to see what we all come up with this year.

Hi  Smiley

My stash runneth over...Unfortunately my time doesn't Undecided. I decided to start small with quick projects. Here are some pieces of dreadlock jewellery I made. I made some of these on the fly (while waiting for class to start etc). They are made of permanently coloured copper wire.

This one is a favourite- silver plated wire with iridescent glass bugle beads.

 Others I love

Thanks for looking! Happy crafting  Cheesy

I haven't covered much ground due to a hectic schedule but thanks to my baby brother's impromptu wedding this past weekend I got the chance to do some crafting. This is my 9th project this year. Teaching ends this week so soon I'll be able to make up for lost time  Grin. Yay!!

Wedding favours for a beach themed wedding!

7  My very first thing in Clothing Sewalongs by raslalique on: June 01, 2006 02:52:05 PM
Here is my attempt at pattern making.

It needs more work but I'm satisfied enough with it to wear it out in public. I started out with a slightly flared skirt pattern then I added crotch curves to it. The flare isn't readily obvious in the gauchos because I used a knit fabric so it came out a bit drapy.

The biggest fault was I added too much ease for the crotch depth (I messed up somewhere in my measurements  Sad ). I'm not exactly a fan of the long crotch look  Undecided.

Here's the FRONT

It doesn't have too many wrinkles in the butt so I'm happy there.. Smiley

One more......

I'd appreciate comments/criticisms. Be as honest as you can.

Thanks for looking Smiley

9  Black vinyl tote with beaded flowers (Image heavy) in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by raslalique on: February 02, 2006 02:00:37 PM

I want to share a bag I made. I've always been queen of the itty-bitty purses but reality has shown me I need a bigger bag.  So here it is.

It's made of black vinyl (pleather) that I got quite cheaply ($67.00 Jamaican = about a dollar US). I hand sewed two big flowers on the bag and used some large dangling glass beads as the centre of each flower.

Detail of Flowers

Here's a photo of me standing with it

I hope you like it!

Here is mine guys. It's pale lime green cotton voile. I added metallic lace to the bottom (I'll post a picture of the metallic lace later).
