1  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing Machines: Discussion and Questions / sewing machine troubles. please help! on: January 03, 2008 08:59:19 PM
so, my sewing machine and i aren't speaking right now.  i was cruising along on it yesterday morning, letting it go at it's own pase, not rushing it or anything when all of the sudden...  jam up!  i cleared the extra thread, set myself back up again, and was on my way!  bam!  jam up again.  this has been a steady battle for a day now and i've done the whole walk away thing and try to see if it'll just fix itself but i'm too impatient and have far too many things to do and cannot afford an out of commission sewing machine.

i have a singer simple and the exact problem is that the top thread is getting hung up repeatedly on the lower thread mechanism.  basically, the top thread keeps getting looped around the thing that turns on the lower end of the sewing.  i've taken it apart, lubed it up, blew out the chunks of lint, checked for debris, changed stitches, but nothing seems to be working!  does anyone have any words of wisdom for me?  my sister had the same problem with her machine last year and after not touching it for two months, it miraculously started working again.  as indicated before though, that's not really an option for me seeing as how i'm on commission from my parents...

what do i do?

2  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / recycled knit sweater! on: September 02, 2007 10:39:50 PM
my friend (who is a boy) said that this sweater shrunk in the wash, and no longer fit him length-wise (he's like 6'5", so that's not hard to do...).

i stumbled upon it while hanging out in his room and he said that i could have it, figuring that i could do something with it.  as you can see, men's large aren't really meant for flattering and looking cute...

so, after some cutting and sewing, i jazzed it up a bit!

he's a close-up of the buttons and button holes which came from another recon project that included a pair of men's slacks!  the whole in the top is from a button-hole attempt gone wrong, which made me switch to the slacks, i'll probably patch that up as soon as this topic is finished!

let me know what you think!

3  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / bed sheet dress! on: September 02, 2007 10:33:21 PM
so, i was at the thrift store one day, and this fabric caught my eye...

so i snatched that bad boy up for a whole dollar and made this today!

that's my roomie in the background, she wanted to be apart of the action, and she was my advising committee that influenced the bow and straps!
4  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / carside crochet... on: August 06, 2007 07:07:43 PM
so, my boyfriend is co-oping out in seattle for the summer, and saturday i'm flying out to visit him and to help him drive back before school starts.  the drive from seattle to toledo, ohio is approximately 34 hours, and seeing as how i won't be driving the WHOLE time, i figured that it would be the prefect time to crochet something!  but, the question is what...  i've made my fair share of hats, scarves, and gloves, but does anyone have any suggestions as to something i could create that wouldn't require too much room or assembly?
5  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / how i spent my summer vacation (img. heavy) on: August 04, 2007 01:26:29 PM
so, i'm living in cincinnati for the summer, and i was so excited that my roommate had a sewing machine seeing as how car space was going to be tight, and i didn't know if it would have been able to make the trip.

i've been sewing and reconstructing for a few years and just now hopped onto the wagon to share my sweet threads!

so, without further adieu, my cincinnati summer projects!

this one was a slightly too big un-flattering v-neck that i "poor man's screen printed" and turned into a tank (sorry, no before pic, it was a pretty typical shirt)

and this one isn't really a recon, but i didn't know if i had enough pictures to warrant another post, this was more of a sunday afternoon project.  the cool thing about this dress is that today (while garage sailing) this guy asked me where i got my 60s style dress, because he hasn't seen anything like it since that time!
