1  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / Re: Zombie Pirate Costume Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelp!!! on: October 28, 2009 05:36:54 AM
is there any way you could make your outfit look more "distressed"?  like you were buried underground and clawed your way to the surface?  maybe do some dusting around your house w/ your costume.  also, fake wounds seeing as how there are so few ways to kill a zombie and you probably want to seem more like one of the scrappier ones.

as for pirate shoes i would suggest either slouchy boots or something w/ buckles!  good luck!
2  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing Machines: Discussion and Questions / Re: sewing machine troubles. please help! on: January 13, 2008 09:09:25 AM
so...  i did what both of the aforementioned posts suggested and it was actually a combination of the two!  my bobbin was in backwards (something i probably wouldn't have thought twice about) and a definite cleaning was in order.  so i'm back online!  thanks again for your suggestions!  now i have a lot of sewing to catch up on...

thanks a lot ladies!  i've been busy getting settled back at school and will give these things a try once the weekend hits.  i'll let you know how it goes, from the sounds of it, a combination of the remedies will help me get back on the needle soon!
4  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing Machines: Discussion and Questions / sewing machine troubles. please help! on: January 03, 2008 08:59:19 PM
so, my sewing machine and i aren't speaking right now.  i was cruising along on it yesterday morning, letting it go at it's own pase, not rushing it or anything when all of the sudden...  jam up!  i cleared the extra thread, set myself back up again, and was on my way!  bam!  jam up again.  this has been a steady battle for a day now and i've done the whole walk away thing and try to see if it'll just fix itself but i'm too impatient and have far too many things to do and cannot afford an out of commission sewing machine.

i have a singer simple and the exact problem is that the top thread is getting hung up repeatedly on the lower thread mechanism.  basically, the top thread keeps getting looped around the thing that turns on the lower end of the sewing.  i've taken it apart, lubed it up, blew out the chunks of lint, checked for debris, changed stitches, but nothing seems to be working!  does anyone have any words of wisdom for me?  my sister had the same problem with her machine last year and after not touching it for two months, it miraculously started working again.  as indicated before though, that's not really an option for me seeing as how i'm on commission from my parents...

what do i do?

5  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Discussion and Questions / Re: blanket with sleeves!!! on: November 26, 2007 07:10:30 PM
my boyfriend showed this to me a few months ago, and i joked with him about "so, basically, you want a robe..."  and after showing my family what i thought to be a weird request, they all want one!  i've been asked to mass produce them!
6  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / The Swap Gallery / Re: Star Trek Swap Gallery on: October 19, 2007 09:45:40 PM
i got my package from The Crafty Cat a few days ago, but have been so bogged down with school and work that it's taken me a few days...

a lovely cross-stitched bookmark!

originally one tribble was sent...  but it had a bit of a baby in transit...  there was also a quadro-triticale, but don't worry, they were kept seperate.

and my very own captain's log!  my roommate took the liberty of filling out a few of the dates for me while i was at class, apparently this wasn't just a one time thing.

i also got a personalized cookbook but forgot to take a picture seeing as how it made it's way to the kitchen bookshelf with all the other cookbooks before i snapped the picture.

and i feel like a super big bonehead for the romunlin faux-pa...  feel free to make an edit to the pillow.  i base most of my star trek knowledge to the original six and the time that my mom and i had the marathon was when i was twelve (which is longer ago than i thought) and my mind must be failing me.  i knew something bled blue and i guess i got mixed up...  fail...
7  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / The Swap Gallery / Re: Star Trek Swap Gallery on: October 19, 2007 04:09:53 AM
i was hanging out with this guy once who was really high and mighty on himself about his star trek knowledge and made a comment about klingons bleeding green and then that burst into me saying "oh no, no, no, sir, you're mistaken..."  followed by an informational on intergalactic circulatory systems.  he tired to fight with me on it, but i knew my sh*t...

you know, with this engineering degree i'm working on, teleportation is one thing that i should see if i can do...  maybe for senior design...
9  Ohio / Ohio: Northwest / Re: Anyone from or near Toledo? on: October 16, 2007 08:07:39 PM
hooray toledo!  well, as much as you can hooray it...   i'm originally from outside of cleveland, go to school here, and did a co-op (basically a paid internship for engineering students) in cincinnati for the summer.  the couple i lived with over the summer spent a good portion of the last month i was down there working on outfits for burningman and i was so happy to hear that i was going to move into a house that already had a sewing machine.  i'd say that my current main crafts are sewing and crocheting, but i try to get into as much as i can.  my two current projects are team rocket halloween costumes for my boyfriend and myself, and an afghan swap that my sister and i are doing with each other while she's away at college too.  i live right by the university and am always working on something, so it'll be nice to have other people in the area to gets tips and new mediums from!
