1  CLOTHING / Clothing for Kids: Discussion and Questions / Re: buttons v. snaps v. velcro on: April 06, 2009 06:58:09 AM
This is a great post, so thank you. I bought snaps and a pound on the floor tool at JoAnns and both are totally worthless. I will check out snapsource.com. It appears that they are metal. Where do you get poly-resin? What's the difference between the two?

Any specific size recommendation for making onesies?
2  UNITED STATES / Minnesota / No Coast Craft-a-thon Needs You! on: October 24, 2008 08:57:10 AM
Hey, Crafter!  We want you for the first ever No Coast Craft-a-Thon Upcycle Challenge!

What is it?
No Coast Craft-a-Thon is a competitive event that pits up to four teams of crafters against each other in a battle to upcycle materials into the baddest, raddest handcrafted item they can dream up and pull together in 45 minutes. Crafting is now a spectator sport!

Each team will receive a set of broken-in materials (Smurf bed sheets?  Mismatched melamine plates?  Vintage acrylic yarns from Aunt Madge's stash?  Who knows what wonders await!) and some supplies (such as a sewing machine, needles and thread, glue gun, etc.) with which to create their fantastic upcycled product.  Each team will receive a similar set of materials and supplies to work with, although each material set will be somewhat unique due to the nature of thrifted/used materials.  The material set's contents will remain a mystery until the teams step onstage.

Once the teams tear into their material sets, the games begin!  There are no guidelines on what teams create.  The world's most fabulous tote?  A tailored jumpsuit?  A life-size soft-sculpture bust of Elvis?  Show off your craft chops!

After 45 minutes of hard-core competitive craft action, each team will present their upcycled craft to the panel of judges (and legions of adoring fans). Judges will grade the products on originality, functionality, craftsmanship and best use of materials.

Whats at stake?
Fame and fortune!  The winning No Coast Craft-a-Thon team will take home an array of fabulous prizes from awesome sponsors like Janome, Craft Zine, Venus, Sublime Stitching, indie boutique Truly, Crafty Planet, and more, (as well as the pride of earning the coveted title of No Coast Craft-a-Thon Champions).   In addition, the winning upcycled craft will be displayed at Crafty Planet!

When is it?
No Coast Craft-a-Thon will take place at 2:00 on December 6, 2008, during No Coast Craft-o-Rama.

Where is it?
No Coast Craft-a-Thon will take place smack dab in the middle of the Midtown Global Market on the plaza stage.

Sign me up!
Everyone is eligible to enter!  Put together an all-star team of four; then email us at craftathon@gmail.com by November 7 to tell us why your team deserves a chance to become the First No Coast Craft-a-Thon Champs. Up to four teams will be selected by the No Coast Craft-o-Rama jury based on creativity of response and team members' crafty credentials. Its on!
3  Wisconsin / Wisconsin: Southeast / Tell me what you like/dislike about Milw/Madison on: June 10, 2008 07:45:23 AM
Hubby and I had a baby last year, and like many peeps, are considering moving closer to family. I grew up in Madison, he in Milwaukee. So...having not lived in either place for over 12 years or more (or as an adult), what do you like about those cities? Would you rank one over the other? Factors that influence us include: nice neighborhoods with kid friendly stuff and nice yards, good craft stores/scene (me), bike trails, nice restaurants, good schools, good beer selection (hubby), etc. Or should we just move somewhere warm and fuggedabahdit? Tongue
4  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Knit Sleep Sack for Baby -- not Knitty? on: December 13, 2007 08:01:47 AM
Are there other knit sleep sack patterns out there besides the Knitty one?

http://www.knitty.com/ISSUEsummer07/PATTzodiac.html

That's the only one I'm able to find, and I'd rather not do zippers. Any ideas?
5  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: What to do with sock yarn (not socks)? on: December 11, 2007 10:17:13 AM
Wow, that's really pretty. I've never knit lace before, is it super hard?
6  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / What to do with sock yarn (not socks)? on: December 11, 2007 09:42:37 AM
Anyone have any recommendations on what to do with sock yarn, besides making socks? Any pattern suggestions/recommendations appreciated. I have one big ole skein and it's a variegated pinky/greeny color. Very pretty.
7  UNITED STATES / Minnesota / Re: No Coast Craft-o-rama this weekend on: November 27, 2007 06:42:31 PM
Sorry to reply to my own post, but Debbie Stoller is going to be at No Coast Craft-o-rama signing books and meeting people from 4 to 5 PM on Friday. Please come by!
8  UNITED STATES / Minnesota / No Coast Craft-o-rama this weekend on: November 25, 2007 06:34:48 PM
Just a friendly little reminder that No Coast Craft-o-rama 2007 is this coming Friday and Saturday. We plan to have entertainment by Miss Georgia Peach, Big Ditch Road, Roe Family Singers, Dimestore Dames, and Makeready. Also plan on 105 (!!!) vendors, LOTS of whom have never sold anywhere in Minnesota before. Yippee!

Of course, come hungry!

9  UNITED STATES / Minnesota / No Coast Coming Soon! on: October 19, 2007 03:08:50 PM
It's hard to believe, but No Coast is just around the corner. Only a month and a couple weeks and it's here (not to frighten the vendors who are feverishly preparing or anything...). Please support your local crafty types and stop by. This year it's two days so you hopefully will have a teeny bit more room to move.

Friday, Nov. 30 from 3 PM to 8 PM
Saturday, Dec. 1 from 9 AM to 5 PM

Music both days. Over 100 vendors. Food (of course!). So much more.

10  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / Re: Three tier felt cake on: September 12, 2007 12:08:32 PM
I cut up some cereal boxes and made the forms. It's not the sturdiest, but I really just needed it to sit on the table and look cute. It was pretty easy to make -- I just traced plates for the circles and then duct taped another strip around the side and then the bottoms I left open.
