The ongoing tarot card swap - August 2011!!

Welcome!! This is a simple and easy swap, with your level of participation determined entirely by you.   Smiley

The tarot cards you make must be 4x6 inches. It is assumed that we are all using the Universal Rider-Waite deck for card meanings/symbolism - unless you specify differently in your personal preferences on your claim post.

A regular size greeting card envelope should be big enough to fit your card but be sure to put it in between some thicker pieces of card stock or cardboard so that it doesn't get ruined during the shipping process (remember the extra weight may change the shipping price slightly).

Please put your 'artist info' on the card. Twenty years from now we want to know who made such a beautiful card!

Discussion thread: Questions and discussion can be posted here.

Current Gallery: post photos of your received tarot cards here!

July Gallery: look at the tarot cards made last round.

*Everyone is welcome and encouraged to join this swap!  Sign-ups are open until the end of August--YAY!  PM me the above questionnaire to get started, and please wait to be accepted into the swap before making any claims.  Please make sure you are not late or flakey in any of your other swaps.*

HOW THIS SWAP WORKS:

Claims are made throughout the signup/claim period of the swap.  You have two weeks from the time you make a claim to send that claim.

You can make as many (or as few) claims as you want throughout the month as long as you never go over your allowed amount of outstanding claims. (An outstanding claim is a card that has not been received; when that card is received your number of outstanding claims goes down leaving you open to bring it back up to 5 or 8.)

Posting QUALITY photos of received tarot cards is a requirement of this swap.  Smiley

CLAIMING

1. Claims are made using the following procedure:

Person A (the swap organizer) will begin the swap by posting a list of themes in this swap thread.
Person B will choose a theme from one of A's themes and make a claim by posting his/her own list (see below for formatting of post).
Person C will make a claim on one of B's themes and post his/her own list.
Person D will make a claim on one of C's themes and post his/her own list etc...
This continues through the end of the month, when the swap organizer makes the final claim and closes out the claiming part of the swap.

2. How many claims can be made by each individual:

The number of claims each person is allowed depends on the following criteria:
*Friends of Craftster: 8 claims
*Those who aren't Friends of Craftster: 5 claims
*First time swappers (whether Friends of Craftster or not): 1 claim.  Once the initial claim has been sent, and its new owner has reported it received, the first time swapper is free to make more claims, either 5 or 8 dependent on being an FOC or not.

3. How to make a claim:

A claim post should include the following information:
1. The theme you are choosing and who youre sending it to.
2. Statistical info about your current swap claims status:
  • Claims = Claims currently outstanding (ie., how many not yet received by their new owners.) (This number goes down each time a claim is received, and up each time you make a claim.)
  • Sent = anything currently in the mail.
  • Received = the cards received by the people you've sent them to.
3. Your location.
4. Your personal preferences.
5. Your list of themes

SAMPLE CLAIMS POST:

Quote
Quote
I claim RandomCraftsterMemb er for heffalumps/weasels tarot card.

3 claims, 2 sent, 1 received

I live in Massachusetts, USA.  I would prefer not to receive anything violent, political, or religious.

My themes are:
1)   sneezing
2)   purple people eaters
3)   wandering men of grief
4)   jumping jehosophats
5)   birds in hats

ONCE YOU HAVE MADE A CLAIM:

1. Send a personal message to the person you have claimed and request their address
2. You have 2 weeks to complete each card, and have it in the mail to its new owner.  Smiley

ONCE YOU HAVE SENT OR RECEIVED A CARD
1. Please PM the organizer when you send or receive a card.  (It's also good to notify the person you received from or are sending to.)
2.  Label the message as Ongoing Tarot Card swap August--Sent or Ongoing Tarot Card Swap August--Received (or some variant of that)
3.  Be sure and include (1) the "send by" date, as well as (2) the theme and (3) who sent it to (4) whom, in each email to the tarot card swap organizer, when you're referring to sent or received tarot cards.  That's four pieces of important information that make my life as a swap organizer OH so easy!

For example, you could use this format:
Quote
Quote
I sent some tarot cards today!

Send by 12/16:
beckashell ---> randomswapper = fantasy theme

Send by 12/17:
beckashell ---> craftstermember = nature theme
beckashell ---> tarotfan101 = yet another fascinating theme

PLEASE REMEMBER TO INCLUDE THIS IN EVERY PM!

This lets the organizer easily access the swap info, so it can be updated.

POSTING PHOTOS OF TAROT CARDS RECEIVED
It is OH so important to post pictures of the amazing cards you receive!  This is the best way in the world to let it be known how special it is that you've received a wonderful treasure of someone else's creativity!

Please post pictures/scans of your received cards in the gallery (or make arrangements with your partner to do so).

FEEDBACK
Positive feedback will be given when all of the tarot cards you sent have been received.   Good communication is always cool!  And be sure and post those pictures in the gallery!

ANY QUESTIONS?
If you have any questions please post them in the discussion thread or PM the organizer.  This thread is specifically for claims only.

Thanks to the lovely people that have organized past ATC swaps for allowing me to adapt your amazing "about claiming" post!

Maybe if it's too big a commitment we could make it ongoing instead, so you only have to commit to one card at a time. You could list specific cards and themes you might like...

LV = LITTLE VISITOR

You will send a Little Visitor (LV) to your partner by June 20th, along with a BIOGRAPHY (likes/dislikes/personality traits) and CONTRACT. Your partner will sign the CONTRACT and send it back to you ASAP. The contract is so that they promise to love and care for your stuffy as if it was their own and to send it home when the LV visit is over.

Here is a sample contract from one of the previous rounds:
http://img97.imageshack.us/my.php?image=swapcontract2um.png

Here is a sample BIO from the one of the previous rounds:
http://thestuffmaker.livejournal.com/11346.html

You should work on finding/crafting/choosing your LV and writing his/her/its bio as soon as you are approved for the swap, since the first send-outs are less than a week after partners are matched up.

Post a photo of your LV in the thread.

Once you are accepted into the swap you must post in either this thread or the gallery at LEAST ONCE A WEEK the swap organizers WILL be checking this. If you are going to be away please let us AND your partner know. Failure to check in WILL be reflected in your swap feedback comments.

Once you receive your LV, show them around!  You should visit at least 10 different areas/parts of town/activities so that they can get the real experience of your community.  Of course, the more places they visit, the better!  And be sure to take lots of pictures to send home with your new friend!

You will be required to send at least 15 printed pictures in a scrapbook/journal type thing. I know not everyone is a scrapper/paper crafter but please do you best to send something you are proud of.  I highly recommend sending any additional pics on a CD or even a link to your Flickr/Photobucket gallery of your Little Visitor.

You are also required to send 3 souvenirs/ mementos from the LVs trip.  The souvenirs can be crafted, bought, or both.  Try to send souvenirs that are unique to your area!  In previous rounds, craftsters have made their little visitors outfits or accessories, so you may do that too if you like.  Discuss how much you'd like to send with your partner.

Send your LV home by September 19th.  I know that's a long time for the swap to go on, but we want to give the LV's as many holiday excursions as possible!  If you'd like to send the LV back earlier, again please discuss it with your partner.

IF YOU ARE MAILING WITHIN YOR OWN COUNTRY, YOU MUST GET A DC NUMBER when you send your own LV and when you send your partner's LV back home! If youre mailing internationally, you MUST KEEP YOUR RECEIPT (or other proof of mailing that is approved by me before sending)! And I require a picture or scan of the postal receipts so I can verify that you did in fact mail your LV to your partner and also when you have sent your LV back home.

To Reiterate:
* Post a photo of your LV in the thread
* Send your LV, his/her/its bio, and the contract to your partner by June 20th
* Sign your partner's contract and mail it back AS SOON as you receive the LV.
* Take your LV around town and show them the sights!  Make sure they have fun, and stay safe!
* Post photos of your adventures in the gallery
* Make the scrapbook/journal and make or buy some souvenirs for the LV to remember its trip by.
* Mail the LV, the scrapbook/journal, and the souvenirs back to your partner by September 19th
* Contact organisers when you send/receive - you MUST supply DC# or receipt EVERY time you post something

Once you are matched up with your partner, please stay in contact with them!  If you haven't heard from your partner in a while, please let me know!  I hope we don't have any flakers, but if we do, it's better if we catch them quickly.

THIS IS A COMPLICATED SWAP AND ITS LONGER THAN MOST. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE read everything before you sign up, and make sure you can commit to everything.

THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND WHILE CHOOSING A STUFFY TO SEND
- Small is better than large. Not only do you have to ship it, your partner has to ship it back!  Also, small LVs tend to be easier to haul around town than large ones. ALL LV's must be UNDER 8 inches tall by 6 inches wide. We have had issues with LVs being too large to bring in a purse etc.
- Swaps arent perfect, and neither is the mail system. Please dont send something youd be heartbroken to lose. There have been flakers in previous rounds.
- For better photos, send a LV that is poseable (this is just a suggestion, most will not be posable, and that is ok)
- Your partner might have allergies, so its best not to send something your cat loves to cuddle up with or thats been sitting on a shelf next to your incense collection!
- LV doesnt have to be a stuffed animal, feel free to send some sort of a doll/plastic toy/stuffed animal/poppet instead!

If youre up for it, PM me your info (see below) AND post here on the thread. That way Ill know that youll get notification of anything I post here.

If you want to participate, please put LV SWAP ROUND 14 as the subject!!! Send your completed questionnaire to the organisers (beckashell and ckchan). Failure to do so may delay your entry into the swap.

The only things I will take into consideration when pairing partners up are:
1. willingness to ship outside of your own country
2. allergies and/or pets
3. making sure to not send you a LV from your surrounding area
4. I will also *try* to get you a LV the size that you prefer

QUESTIONNAIRE TO ANSWER:
Name of swap: Little Visitor Swap Round 14 - mid year vacation
Craftster username:
Email address:
Your real name:
Mailing address (as it would appear on a mailing label):
Would you be willing to ship to an address outside of your own country?
Would you prefer to ship to an address outside of your own country?
Please confirm that you are at least 13 year of age:
Do you have any allergies that would prevent you from exchanging your LV with smokers, pet owners et.c.?
Do YOU have any FOOD allergies?
Is your LV from a home where people smoke?
Is your LV from a home with pets?
Name of LV:
Does your LV have a religious affiliation?
Does your LV have a political affiliation?
Would you like for your partner to include candy/foods from your area? (please look at your countries postal codes for sending/receiving food from outside of your country. Swappers within the USA shouldn't have any problems)
Does your LV have any specific food restrictions (veggie/vegan/carnivore/cannibal)?
Does your LV have any phobias (heights, clowns, etc)?
Anywhere in particular (or any type of place) your LV would like to go? (I will try to match people up so that the LV will get to see something different from their home environment.)
Have you done this swap before? List previous partners/locations if you want your LV to go somewhere different:
Where do you live? (i.e. a rural town, a large city, etc...)?
What kinds of sights would you like your LV to see?
What kinds of sights will you take your LV to see?
Do you want your LV to come home exactly as sent, or can they experience the joy (and possible stress!) of body modifications while traveling? (ie piercing, tattoo, new hair style)
Are you of legal drinking age where you live?  Is your LV?
What sort of creature/gender/species is your LV?
What size is your LV?
Any type of LV you would not like to host? (for example, I do not like clowns, so I would not enjoy hosting a LV that is a clown, *shudder*)
List here anything that might offend you or your LV: (ie, religion, politics, booze, food preferences, etc)
Do you have/have access to a camera?
Can you fulfill the 15 printed pictures requirement?
Can you send the 3 souvenirs/mementos? (these can be handmade or storebought.)
Can you post a picture in the sign up thread of the LV you will be sending?
Anything else you would like to let your partner know?
Do you have a WIST/pinterest?
Blog?
Facebook/myspace? (please provide links)

Send your completed questionnaire to the organizers (beckashell and ckchan). Failure to do so may delay your entry into the swap.

Has this been suggested before?

I have no idea why but the idea just popped into me head. The things the Greys Anatomy musical episode inspires...  Wink

I figure it would be the same as ATC swaps where:
- You can make a list of themes to chose from - or even just have one theme.
- The person that chooses you must send you SIX inchies - you could use just theme or a few different themes.

Thoughts?

Just wondering if anybody had any changes or suggestions to make about the LV swap before Round 14 starts up next month.

Things you like, things you don't like...

Should we make the length of the swap shorter?
Something other than a weekly check-in to stop flakers?

Share your thoughts please~!! Cheesy Cheesy
