1  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Victorian style petticoat help! on: August 25, 2009 05:25:57 PM

I made this gathered cotton skirt, to make it more period should I attach ruffles around the hem? I was going to do knife pleats but really don't want to do them buy hand!
(Sorry about the grubby mirror and the opening is at the front cuz I gathered it weird Roll Eyes)
Any suggestions?
2  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Discussion and Questions / Starting out help! on: July 24, 2009 12:48:34 PM
Hi, I got felting wool from college and I'm worndering if this can be spun into yarn, I had a little look into it ages ago and I'm wondering what I would need to start.
I quiet like the idea of producing a thick yarn, would this be possible?
Could you suggest a few inexpensive things to get me started?
Cheers

3  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Kasia skirt on: July 04, 2009 01:27:02 PM

This is my version of the Kasia skirt from burday style(it's free!!). Was quiet easy to make altho the instructions on the waistband are not clearly written.
I cut to a 44 and it fits fine abound the hips but gapes around the waist band, not a massive gap tho maybe 2/2.5cm. I also took up the hem by 4 inches.
I used red wool and blue and white polka dot cotton from my stash, I love the button up front, looks more complicated than it is, altho doing button holes was a pain!
I love the colours, makes me cheerie when wearing it!! ( I honestly didn't wear it out in brown boots!  Tongue)

Comments and critiques would be great!!
4  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Charity Shop Scarf Dress on: June 18, 2009 09:49:36 AM
Our fashion and textile class had to make garments for a charity fashion show, way back in October, we were put into teams of 3 and given 15 to spend in the charity shop on anything we liked.
We chose silk scarfs as we knew the rest of the class would choose existing garments.
We made a tight fitting bodice and a full skirt. The bodice was a cheap corset(thank god for primark!) and the scarfs were folded to fit the form, I had to hand sew every fold down, crazy amount of sewing later and Tada! done!
The skirt is pretty simple we sewed all the scarfs together joining one corner to another and forming a chain, we then turned a channel for elastic and fini!
Our team won out of 8 entries. Wooooop
Here's the pics, our model was Katy she was in our group and did an amazing job!

Love to hear your opinions!

6  HOME SWEET HOME / Interior Decorating: Discussion and Questions / Help me paint my worktable! on: May 04, 2009 11:12:53 AM
This is my worktable, it's an old dining table, it has been sanded down and painted with white undercoat.

This is the design I would love on my table

but I think it looks far too fussy so I photoshopped the bits I wanted to keep but now I don't quiet know how to place the bits I like on my table.

My colours are white for the whole background, red and light blue.
Could anyone help?
Cheers!

Hi
I'm making a dress based on a tribal theme, kinda Adam ant meets Scotland and some roaming princess....if that makes sense.
The fabrics I have chosen are Egyptian cotton, plain voile, butter muslin, tweed and brass pop studs.

I'm looking for dress pictures to help me kinda ragged, tea stained, multi layered but not poofy
can u guys come up with anything?

Hullo!

I was thinking of using buttons to make a table top for outside all (Scottish) weather use, Can anyone tell me if buttons would be okay to mosaic and what kind of sealant I should use for all weather use?

Cheers!

9  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Discussion and Questions / What kind of paper? on: March 27, 2009 08:25:11 PM
Hi
I'm going to make my friend a writing journal, but what kind of paper would you recomend? She uses a mix of ball point and ink and it would be better if it didn't seep through the paper.
Something thick and smooth that I can still make into signatures.
Cheers for any help

10  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / Crochet Button necklace help? on: February 18, 2009 07:44:05 AM
Hi all,
I would love to make this Crochet button necklace, but I'm new to crochet and don't understand the pattern.
http://www.fortunecity.com/victorian/operatic/312/button1.htm

Does anyone know if theres a video or photo tutorial?
Also the pattern recommends crochet thread but would yarn be okay too?
Thanks for any help in advance
Fiona
