Desert Winds Elementary PTO invites all crafters, artists, bakers and hobbyists to sell your wares at the Harvest Market on November 7th, 2008 from 5:30 to 8:00 (with plenty of time before and after for set-up/clean-up).

The event will be held during the annual joint Fall Carnival hosted by Desert Winds and Picture Rocks Intermediate Schools.  With several hundred families expected, we are looking forward to a good turn-out!

Booths at the in-door Harvest Market are $20 each and must be reserved by November 4th.  Vendors will keep all of their earnings.  Funds raised with the booth rental fees will go to projects that support the students at Desert Winds Elementary, including helping to provide a shade structure over our kindergarteners playground.

hi!  i have never thought of posting these until i saw some of the amazing photos while browsing today.  hope you like them!  plus, i'm definitely diggin' the macro challenge so i'll have to see if i can come up with something.

Beach Dog!


On the sea, on the sea, on the beautiful sea!


Volcan Arenal (the soil is so rich in this area that you can literally put a stick in the ground and it will root itself and grow into a tree...how miraculous is that?!?)


I wish I lived on the exact spot where I took this picture.


Tree Frog (had to borrow a white light flash light and prop it against my head while also propping my camera against my elbow in order to get this shot...but it's for my frog-lovin' friend, so had to do it!   )


Lastly, sunset over the jungle...I wish I lived here, too.

This is a laptop bag I made for my sister in law.  She picked out the fabric and gave me the measurements and said that she wanted a simple, messenger-style bag.

I sat down on Saturday and put this together.

It has thick felt as a padding and is lined on the inside with black courderoy.  The front also has a bit of freehand machine quilting on one of the girl's hair, the flames and on the circle designs in the lower right hand corner.  (Sorry, the pics of the quilting didn't turn out.)




front, the strap and flap are made with the same black cord that I lined the bag with.  the flap is lined with the tattoo fabric...

I wanted to make a bag large enough to hold groceries for my big family as well as be durable, strong and have pockets for keys, money, credit cards, cell phone.  This way, I can carry it into the store without also toting along another bag or purse.

I had two pairs of pants that had been ripped that were waiting in my "use it" pile so I grabbed those and got to work.  

Here's what I came up with:

photo 6:  back pockets (the bag lays flat across the bottom normally.  just sitting funny in the picture.)


The saying on the bag is a New England proverb that I love:  "Use it up, wear it out, make it do or do without."

I stenciled it on, along with the recycling symbol, with paint that I already had.

Hi!  So, this is the first time I've posted one of my projects here, mostly because it took me a while to figure out how! 

I fell in love with the swingy-ness of the Burda Linda skirt and decided to try it out.  It uses a lot of fabric, so before running out to by so adorable red cord to make a winter skirt (although I live in Arizona so I might only get to wear it occassionally!), I wanted to use something I already had that was cheap...enter, mountains of black cotton I got last Halloween! 

This fabric had just been sitting around so I grabbed it up, printed out the pattern and made the skirt.  I loved it so much that I wore the skirt to a birthday party and will be making at least two more, one in light weight denim (from curtains that used to hang in my son's room) and one in the red cord.  I'll post them when I get finished with them.

The pattern is very easy, although I modified the size just a little, making it narrower at the waist.  It took about two hours for me so if you're looking for a great skirt that goes together pretty easily, look at this one.  It's on the burda style website under patterns.
