If you don't mind me asking, how did you make the roses?

It looks fantastic. You're the only bride in the world who has worn that dress! That's so exciting, and you looked like a million dollars!

If you had read what I wrote it made me sick and has made me hate the whole ho in a bag costume because of those girls being drugged and raped. It physically makes me ill to see these girls going around in these costumes and not taking care of themselves or there friends. No one would listen to me about the girl even the cops because they said she was just drunk and her man had her. She kept saying she had just met him and no one would listen to her or me about it. So, I don't go out because I don't want to have to see that again or have to read in the paper about what I saw happening and no one listening to me about it. If that makes me mean then so be it. I don't want anyone to be raped and drugged because of a slutty costume but, the people out there that I was pleading with to help that girl saw her as a slut who was just being a slut where as I saw her as a girl who has bought into the fact that dressing slutty is fine on Halloween and going out to a bar is fun not looking at the dangers that can happen in a situation like that. She was drugged and I saw it I told the police and her friends and no one cared because in there eyes she was a slut who had too much to drink and her man had it.

My best friend was drugged and raped wearing a hoodie and baggy men's sweatpants. Please, I implore you to stop talking in this vein because you have legitimately no idea what kind of awful stereotypes you are promulgating, and in the most uninformed, anecdotal way imaginable. Stop.
3  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / Queen of Hearts (featuring Mugatu!) on: November 16, 2009 02:33:49 PM
I don't post much on Craftster anymore, but I figured every costume posted helps inspire people for the next year, so here goes...

I had a plan to be the Hamburglar for Halloween for about 2 months prior to the holiday. However, when I went to buy b&w striped material, I found that the only (yes only) fabric store/chain around here was not going to be getting any in this year. Faced with making my own (just completed a striped dress like this in the summer and it was super tedious... the addition of school made this impossible) and I had to quickly rethink my choice. I remembered seeing this tutu on etsy this summer: http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=30984282&ref=sr_list_4&&ga_search_query=queen+hearts+tutu&ga_search_type=handmade&ga_page=&order=date_desc&includes[]=tags&includes[]=title and tried to create something inspired by it in less than three days between classes and also making my boyfriend's costume. I spent all my time on the tutu, so the day of Halloween I quickly whipped up the belt/waistband thing (out of an old pair of pants and a cut up work shirt of the bf's... all the hearts are from that). The tiara is leftover from my 19th birthday party (4 years I've saved it.. I knew there was a reason!) and the socks are just American Apparel socks. I wanted to make a wand but ran out of time.

My bf on the other hand, was Mugatu. I think it's pretty straightforward from seeing the costume how we made it, but if you have any questions just let me know and I'll answer them. For the first Halloween ever in our 4 H'weens as a couple his costume won out for getting the most attention.. it was awesome! I was so proud to be out with him, hahaha. Here we go:

(was super excited to be drinking Queen of Hearts wine all night hahaha)

hahaha... once we were at the bar... i believe the theme of this picture was "be really really ridiculously good looking"

I didn't want to post a pic of my friend without her permission but this is the only pic I have of the night where you can see the spade panel of my tutu!

It was a really fun Halloween, I really loved my costume and the bf's. Thanks for looking Smiley

really?? a sexy darth vader? all that vinyl/pleather crap cant be comfortable. and all the shots where she has her hands in her crotch are nice too. and ill probably see someone in something similar.....
 Roll Eyes
oh the joys of being in high school......i had a friend suggest my costume was too modest. shes being an emo prom queen (which i find kind of offensive. i dont know why she decided to go with us. we didnt invite her!) complete with slashed wrists and eyeliner 5" thick. and the teeniest skirt ive ever seen. i swear some of the ho-in-a-bag costumes cover more!

and i dont care if people dress slutty if there legally an adult and wont be with/seen by little kids. if youre in college and are going to be at a party with people your own age, i could care less what you look like. if youre in high school/middle school/anything below that and are dressed in a H-I-A-B costume, or if youre going to be around or seen by little kids then i have a problem with it.

I completely agree with you to a point. I personally love Halloween and used to go out with my husband and before that my friends to parties or bars for Halloween parties. Now however, since people decide to do the ho in a bag costumes (that I find to be disgusting and always have) I stay home because it is better that I don't start puking from the T&A being flashed around. Which means that I don't go out for Halloween I don't get to have fun because to go out means that I am going to be stuck dealing with a bunch of want to be street walkers and if I want to see a street walker I can go to that side of town and see as many as I want. Which really sucks. I am stuck at home on the holiday I love because everyone else wants to be a ho for Halloween. How is that fair? I didn't mind them so much until a few years ago when no one would listen to me about a girl who had been obviously drugged at a club and she and all of her friends (well the whole bar except me and my friends) were in ho in a bag costumes and the next day on the front page of the paper it had something about several girls being drugged and raped on the night before who had gone to that bar. Now ho in a bag costumes make me sick and my Fave holiday has been taken over by them and rapes. Thank you ho in a bag costumes for ruining a fun holiday.

I honestly think you should talk to someone professionally if you allow your life to be affected this much by things people you don't even know, and who most importantly, Aren't you, are wearing.

This entire post had made me view Craftster completely different. I always loved that nobody was ever mean on Craftster, and here I find an entire thread where people are actually saying things like that girls who dress slutty are basically asking to be raped and drugged and that they have no self respect, and then actually posting pictures of these girls online and ripping them apart. Give me a friend who wears a slutty costume over people who act like that any day of the year, not just Halloween.
5  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Adult No-Sew Tutu Help on: October 29, 2009 05:36:13 AM
I'm attempting to make a no-sew tutu for myself and I need a bit of help. I currently have 10 yards of tulle to work with, and I've got about 6 yards of it on there right now and will add the rest tonight, but I feel like the tutu is a bit too long and I don't want to redo everything I've already done. Also, I'd kind of like the tutu "hem" to be a blunt edge rather than a wispy ball type thing with ends of varying length. I know I'm doing the easy no-sew route, but once I have the tutu at desired poufiness, can I just take scissors to the ends and end up with this straight effect? Or should I simply redo the strips?

Any advice/pictures of your own would be super helpful. If it helps at all, this is my inspiration picture:

it looks great, i laughed at the grimace at the first picture Cheesy

Haha funnily enough my bf took these using his phone (hence the poor quality) and I found out afterwards that he set the grimace picture as the one that comes up whenever I call... so now whenever he answers he's like "Uh oh, you look mad!"  Roll Eyes

Thanks for the awesome tutorial! This was my second attempt at the dress, the first one didn't work out (last summer) but this one turned out better than I hoped, and I love it! Thanks again Smiley
10  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Pink Jersey Bubble Dress on: August 11, 2009 06:54:53 AM
I've made two dresses out of some clearance jersey fabric I picked up. I think for all of both kinds of fabric I paid about $10 CDN and I still have lots of black and a little bit of the pink left over. Unfortunately I am impatient and haven't taken photos of one of them yet, so for now here is the second one I made, using this tutorial: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=196489.0. I just made the skirt a bit shorter and used ribbon to tie the straps instead of jersey. This dress is more comfortable than most of the pajamas I own:

C&C always welcome and appreciated Smiley
