1  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / spoon rings! yay! on: July 03, 2011 04:12:56 PM
I like to make rings outta old spoons Smiley These are solid silver spoons, so I'm able to solder things on them, like stone settings.

These are my most recent ones, but I've made quite a few now hehe.

2  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Get Product and Website Opinions / Branching out with my own site on: November 01, 2010 04:04:48 PM

So I've been using Etsy for years and have been pretty happy overall, but I finally decided to branch out and make my own site for my one product line that I make. Smiley I went with bigcartel.com's shopping cart service, 'cos it seemed easiest. I've expanded the line quite a bit just for this site, I hired a designer to take care of the CSS and graphics, and I just launched it two days ago. I'm hoping to have some volunteer guinea pigs take a peek at it and let me know any constructive criticism you may have to help make it better? It's not quite ready for a grand opening yet, I'm missing a few products and product photos, and I really wanted to see if I could get another model to add some variety to the imagery hehe (my poor roommate modeled for every single picture) but otherwise I think it's almost ready to go. Anybody wanna do me a huge favor, take a peek and let me know what you think? Smiley Thanks in advance!
3  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Get Product and Website Opinions / Facebook Fan Pages on: July 29, 2010 10:15:21 AM
I just wanted to remind everyone that it's completely cool to post your link if you're pointing out something in particular you've done or you're asking for help, but please don't just post a link to your Facebook page just to get likes or with no real comment or question. Self-advertising rules still apply even here!

Does anyone else here utilize a Facebook Fan Page to help market themselves? I've had a one for a long time but I don't use it effectively. Somehow though I've magically still managed to accrue a few fans, so I've kinda realized recently that I should actually try to make it a little better haha. I think FB can be a really powerful marketing tool if you can make yours stand out from the crowd, which granted, is kinda difficult when you're given such a narrow customization ability.

So I started by doing a little research trying to find fun things you -can- do with Facebook, and this led me to change my profile picture. The profile photos are pretty easy to update, and so important, since they're usually the first thing someone sees when they land on your page, and many people (myself included!) don't realize at first that you can actually use a picture up to 180x540 in size! Essentially, you can make a custom skyscraper banner for yourself that you use as your profile image instead of one little square photo.

I'm still working on mine to get it more cohesive, but just playin around with it, Facebook now looks like it's wearing one of my pendants! I think this is pretty eye-catching on a site full of identical templates, and it's fun to say that my charm is so awesome that even Facebook wears it. Tongue

Next I wanna make a custom welcome page using an FBML box.

So who here has a particularly awesome Fan Page? Have you done anything special with it? If not, you should Tongue

Mine is at http://www.facebook.com/metalsmittenjewelry  if you wanna see what I'm blathering about!
4  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / pink & black on: July 21, 2010 04:16:10 PM
Is the color combination of pink & black still in style? 'Cos I still love it Tongue

I finished this yesterday!

& Thanks to those of you who advised me a few days back to make this ring with the vertical orientation, I had been leaning towards making it horizontal but I really like how it turned out this way Smiley
5  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Discussion and Questions / Can I ask your opinion? :) on: July 19, 2010 07:10:29 PM
Hey guys, I'm trying to decide if I should make this ring design be horizontal or vertical... which do you like better? Sorry for quickie snapshot photos!

or

& It's going to have these set in it:

In the design drawing, the two circles will be the pink stones, the long oval is the black stone, and the little gray dots are going to be silver balls.

I just can't decide if I like it better horizontally or vertically =/
6  GLASS CRAFTS / Glass Crafts: Discussion and Questions / gauged earrings? on: July 15, 2010 11:16:48 PM
Does anyone here make 'em? I broke my favorite pair the other day and need new ones. I tried looking on Etsy for some nice gauges (prefer spirals) but could only find polymer clay ones, which my ears don't like. Sad
7  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Discussion and Questions / What's your favorite gemstone and/or color? on: July 15, 2010 07:30:05 PM
Hi everyone! Just curious, what's your favorite gemstone of any kind and why? Or if you just gravitate towards certain colors or color combinations, what's your fave for that? Smiley

I'm in love with the color-flashing stones like moonstone or labradorite, or pietersite (I don't know why this one isn't more popular, it has "pie" in the name even). Also I am obsessed with dino gem bone, which is exactly what it sounds like, dino bones that turned into gems instead of dried-out fossils. They're super awesome for obvious reasons. For colors, I tend to love blues and turquoises, for no particular reason.

And you? Smiley
8  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Ring Makin' Fool on: July 15, 2010 07:20:33 PM
Rings are by far my favorite things to make. These ones are all pretty simple, but I made 4 completed rings in a day and that's above average for me hehe. I only got to take photos of 3 though before Nature was like, hey, thunderstorm, and took away my photography studio (read: the outside). So I'll post the last one whenever it is that the sun comes back and the ground isn't all gross. Teaser: it has a dark labradorite! Yay!

But anyway, here's the three:

Better Than Bella's Moonstone Ring Tongue

Ultra Modern Little Black Dot Ring, with black onyx. It's hard to tell what the shape of the ring band is in the little picture, but it's triangular and awesome. Also way more comfortable than it looks.

Candy Lozenge Ring, with high-end gem-quality rhodochrosite. Nom nom nom!

Thanks for lookin Smiley
9  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Discussion and Questions / This makes me sad... on: July 11, 2010 08:34:35 PM
An article I found today:

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100711/ap_on_re_us/us_wooden_dinosaur

Synopsis: Guy makes giant dino out of scrap wood as a community artwork. Local authorities call it a "structure" instead of a "sculpture," causing it to need a $$ permit or they'll tear it down.

Bah.
10  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Sheer Geekery <3 on: July 11, 2010 06:46:26 PM
I'm a silversmith. I try to be all artisan-craftsmanshippy want-to-be-an-artist-when-I-grow-uppy, but sometimes my inner geek just forcibly takes over and then things like this happen instead. <3 !

Unisex <3 Ring

<3 Charm Pendant!

Yay!
