1  Encephalon in More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works by Djinnique on: February 05, 2008 03:56:37 PM
At the beginning of last year i did a course at CIT, and as a part of it i had to create a self directed installation piece. The piece i created is called encephalon, and in a nut shell it was supposed to describe that balance must be sought between what is human/fantasy/imagined/to do with escapism and the mind and nature and all things external. Looking back i think it's fairly jeuvenile, and i had to rush a fair amount of it but the peices in themselves i dont mind.

2  Labyrinth caterpillar in Polymer Clay: Completed Projects by Djinnique on: February 05, 2008 03:49:37 PM
I absolutely love the funny little caterpiller in the labyrinth, that and i love insects in general and i decided to try my hand at sculpting him. He didn't turn out quite as i would have liked, especially the eyes but i'll keep that in mind for next time ^_^. He's sculpey and mix media.

3  Horse mask in Polymer Clay: Completed Projects by Djinnique on: December 09, 2007 06:31:21 PM

Earlier this year i was at CIT completing my certificate three in visual arts and contemporary craft, and as my final project i was doing a piece called encephalon, which was based around living in ones imagination and the ramifications of that.

This piece actually ended up as process work as i changed the idea slightly, but i still really like it. Sculpting the horse took FOREVER but i loved how it came out!!! I painted it and added string for the mane, it has an undercoat of that reddy brown colour and i used a dark brown black with a dry brush over the top to capture the details.
The mask is also handmade, basically i created a face in normal ceramic clay and papermache'd over it first with newspaper and then with tissue paper (it sounds easier then it was).
