I love the stitch definition in your baby cardy, lxm!
THANKS! I knew I bought this yarn for a reason;)
When I bought the yarn from webs.com for the husband-sweater I bought myself this yarn. I knew I would make baby things from it...but still.
It's an organic cotton and it's thread plied or slightly boucle. I really like how soft it is...and I have 4 more skeins of it Cheesy

You can check your thrift stores and churches.
You know, Goodwill, Salvation Army, and many churches also offer a clothing pantry. Some senior centers do, too.
You might also post a link on Freecycle.com. Describing what you need. Many members there are happy to destash to a good home.

Another idea? Take up painting and make your own textiles. If you learn to stencil...it is easy peasy. And muslin is cheap. There are pre-cut stencils you can buy...or just make your own. Don't limit your shop to the craft stores. Hardware stores often have neat stencils in their paint/wallpaper section. For using on wall borders, and such. But they could be used on fabric.

Stenciling is easy. Get a good pounce brush, and some quality fabric paints. And you are ready to rock and roll.

Fabric Sizing...the important key so that the ink/paint on the fabric does not "bleed" under the stencil. StayFlo Liquid Starch is my go-to. You get that where you buy laundry products. Instructions on the label. Pre-treat the fabric with it so it is stiff.

There are also temporary spray adhesives to help you on the underside of the stencil...to keep it in place while you work. Think Post It Notes  Grin

Hope this is helpful.

COOL! thanks for the input! I am a huge thrift-junkie so I have been checking there when I go, but it didn't occur to me to think of freecycle or CL. durrr

HI! I am a newbie sewist so I don't know the best places to look yet, so pardon if this is a stupid question.
I am looking for southwestern-inspired/pendelton-patterned jersey knits.
I have made a few pairs of pants and maxi-skirts for my infant daughter from old clothes of mine and I have been asked to make more for friends, but I don't have any more old skirts and stuff so I figure I will just have to go the "legit" route and get fabric. lol
thanks for any help you can give me. Like I said I am a noob

you are crazy like a squirrel lxm with that speedy knitting....Grin

Thanks alterednuts  Wink

almost done with the cardigan anyway. This cabled sweater for my husbeast is going to take me a WHILE though.

ETA: I am looking for jersey knit fabric in tribal and southwestern prints. If any of you sewists are destashing... I drank the kool-aid and have been sewing a bit here and there with my serger. I have gotten pretty speedy whipping up baby leggings and was asked to sell them! EEK! I barely know where to buy fabric, so any help would be great.

Just looked through my pins, and I would love some thick slippers like these, or a fun hat like this or this!
I could make the slippers for sure! I have the yarn on hand and everything if you wanted them olive green!
I am making a teeny baby cardigan/shrug right now to match the Babe's tiny easter dress right now, but it should only take like another 2 hours since it's so small!

think I am going to make a quick baby shrug for Baby Mouse's first Easter. Any interest?

yup, machine felted and sleeve-legs! SO EASY!
I used the bottom sweater band as the waist so no elastic bands either. Taking her to visit grandma today so I will probably put her in something sweet and pink (grandmas love that stuff) otherwise she would be rocking these right now.
I love black and grey on a baby...is that weird?

I got my serger set up and actually sewed something that isn't a hot mess!

baby sweater pants! Any interest? I have a million felted sweaters.

if anyone plans on making an order for sewing supplies I would love some nursing bra clasps.
Everywhere I look seems to have stupid-high shipping on them, which would make it more economical if they were piggybacking a bigger order. I would totally get more stuff....but I am not much of a sewist (though my ample stash of sewing and fabric stuff would say otherwise.)

EDIT: in a similar vein... I would like these
