4  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / judy, judy, judy, judy on: June 20, 2009 02:13:44 PM

My girlfriend turned 30 yesterday, and for her birthday, I x-stitched portraits of her four favorite Judys.

Judith Butler, Judy Garland, Judith Jack Halberstam, and Judy Grahn.

The portraits are 2x2 inches each, and I got the frame at Ikea and the mat was custom cut for me by Nicademus Art & Framing in St. Paul, MN.

She's ecstatic-- loves it more than anything else I've ever stitched for her.
5  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / new portraits - bea arthur & simon/garfunkel on: April 30, 2009 10:26:51 AM

I finished this about a week ago-- I was so sad to hear that she passed.

I finished this on saturday.
6  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Spoonbridge & Cherry -- Walker Art Museum, MPLS, MN on: March 29, 2009 11:36:46 AM
Last year, I got behind and missed the deadline to submit something to the Minnesota State Fair.  this year, i decided to start early, and can't believe how quickly I managed to finish.

In May 08, I took a photo of the Spoonbridge & Cherry Sculpture at the Sculpture Garden at the Walker Art Museum here in MPLS.  (Learn more about the actual sculpture here: http://collections.walkerart.org/item/object/713)

Of course, the original photo is saved on my other computer!  But here's the finished piece.

i started it about a month or so ago (oh goodness-- not sure) .  specs-- 3x5 inches, completely stitched on 22.  Palette of 70 colors.  Over 7000 stitches.

you can see a short slideshow of process shots here: http://s283.photobucket.com/albums/kk320/beelisty/?action=view&current=ba12c593.pbw
7  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / a few little x-stitches on: March 04, 2009 07:09:32 AM
so i've been busy working on my intense project, so this weekend i gave myself a break from it to make some fun stuff.  well, the big project is fun too, but i guess i really just needed a break to make easy stuff. Smiley

the frames are the cheap 4x6 ram frames from ikea... i paint them because the bare wood looks kind of sad and cheap to me.
8  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Discussion and Questions / has anyone ever dyed x-stitch canvas? on: February 17, 2009 01:21:23 PM
i haven't had a ton of luck finding colorful x-stitch canvas in colors i would want for certain projects... i'm wondering if anyone has ever tried to dye their own Aida?
9  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / if i can bake a cake... on: February 17, 2009 12:42:24 PM

I stitched this for myself over a week or so.  2 shades of pink and black on 22 hardanger.  finished piece is 5x7 inches.

i identify as a post-modern/radical feminist and i'm a [lesbian] avenger (we don't call ourselves lesbian because there are non-lesbian identified queers and trans folk in our ranks).  i'm going to frame this and hang it in my apartment... right now it's just taped to the wall!!
10  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / <3 <3 rachel maddow <3 <3 on: February 13, 2009 01:33:19 PM
Rachel Maddow is my #1 celebrity crush.

so i stitched a portrait of her.  2x3 inches, almost 3000 stitches.  20 color palette on 22 hardanger.
