I think you did a wonderful job.  in fact I just saw the picture before I read the post and the first thought that went through my mind was Oh My What Happened To You!!!!???  So I think it's perfect.

I don't have this machine but are you talking about winding the bobbin or inserting the bobbin to sew.  As far as winding the bobbin I think you would do this on top of the machine, all of my machines have wound on the top. As far as inserting the bobbin to sew, it looks like the plastic cover over the bobbin housing has a diagram on how to place the bobbin and thread.  Janome has a horizontal bobbin and so does the machines they sell at Sears.  Maybe one of these dealers can help you out.  I think this is called a drop in bobbin.

wow, we saw this at forever 21 today and my daughter had to have it.  I'll be on the look out for a similar pattern too and post here if i find one.
