21  Re: TUTORIAL: Singlet Style Shopping Bag (like the plastic shopping bag) in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by keeperrox on: May 08, 2008 02:44:32 PM
These were sent off in a swap package, but she got it yesterday, so I suppose it's safe to post.  I absolutely LOVE how they came out, and I think when it comes to gifting these bags (at least to my friends & family in the younger generation) this is the way I will go in the future as well.  I just went with a solid, complimentary color for the lining and pocket

I got the clipart images for the stencils here: http://www.wondercliparts.com/holidays/earth_day/earth_day_graphics.shtml

I received from SnapsAndDragons yesterday!  I was amazed at the large object and now have a serious case of swap anxiety.

The Small Items:

Marble Magnets

Thin Mints!

She sent the last package in a Girl Scout Cookie Box, so she figured to send the real thing this time!

There's a Fungus Among Us

Cool pic of a tree near her new house.

The LARGE...

Seriously Awesome Crazy Quilt

I absolute love it!  Sarah got all the scraps from a skirt store where she used to work.  It looks perfect in the guest room, too!  It definitely adds some much needed color in there.

Here are some of my favorite scraps:

I love how there is so much texture from all the different fabrics!

Thank you so much Sarah!  I hope you love your package as much as I do mine! Kiss

23  Re: A Jar of Mini Whimsies Swap Gallery in The Swap Gallery by keeperrox on: April 25, 2008 07:42:03 PM
*Warning* Pic overload ahead!

I received from Lapoli earlier this week, but my kitchen table (otherwise known as my photo stage), was a cluttered mess, so I wasn't able to get pictures until tonight.  Even though I poked through the jar a bit, I exercised EXTREME self-restraint and waited to totally dump the jar until I was able to take pictures.

The packed Ball Jar (with an Amy Butler fabric covered lid *swoon*):

The entire contents:

Tags:

I'm not sure what the intended purpose of these is, but they are really cute cardboard letters and numbers:

I think these are tags and foam shapes for paper crafts:

Garden themed and leaf charms:

Rocks, marbles, and some sea glass:

Funky paperclips and a poker chip:

Buttons galore!  The blue one up front is vintage, and I think the red square one with the white circles is handmade out of polyclay.

Shiny, sparkly, metal do-dads:

Mini locks and keys:

Mini Signs:

Clock hands...

...that glow in the dark!

Beads!

A cow clip, and 2 plastic figures - a dragonfly and a fish:

Ribbon, a sparkly cord, an awesome patch, a fabric covered button (the pin backed type), a piece to a puzzle, and a bit of the very first yarn that she spun!!

Thank you so much Lapoli!  I can't wait to find fun little projects to encorporate some of these wonderful whimsies in!! Cheesy

Found it!  Mix one part insomnia and one part challenge.  It's Filatura di Crosa, Malizioso, in Denim Neutrals.

keeperrox, do you know what the brand/name of that awesome multi-colored yarn is you received in your second package?! Thanks!

The yarn that I sent?  Or that I received?  The only sort of multi-colored yarn that I received was the cotton Peaches and Cream in "Shades of Green".

ETA: If you meant the one that I sent, I don't know what it was called, but hopefully SnapsAndDragons can tell you what the label says.  It was something that I found in the sale room at my LYS, so it might have been discontinued. Sad  Here's a closer look.  Maybe you can glean something from the part of the label in the picture.  Click the picture for a larger view.

26  A tisket, a tasket, yet another BAGSKET! in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by keeperrox on: April 11, 2008 03:15:37 PM
Okay, so I jumped on the bagsket bandwagon for the Make-A-Friend Swap.  I definitely ran into a few snags, but most of them I think had to do with my machine and the thickness of the layers.

I love the colors.  Among her favorites are dark purple and bright blue, so I think this fits the bill.

Here is what I don't like about it: the inside.

I checked this for fit inside out, and it was good, but when I turned it, look how loose it is!  If I were to make one again, I would make the lining smaller (obviously), and I'd have the pockets come higher up (probably 6.5 inches as opposed to 4.5 inches).

I love the recipe cards even more now that I know you (or your dad) took the pictures!!!  That's awesome.

Here's a picture of the bagsket with the drawstring closed.  I didn't get a good pic of the inside though.

I'm glad you liked the package, and I can't wait to see some knitting!

I have NO idea if I'm doing this right, but I looked online to see if I could just wing crocheting, and here's what I've done so far:

28  Antique Shadowboxes in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General by keeperrox on: April 10, 2008 02:52:55 PM
Okay, so the shadowboxes themselves aren't antiques (they're from the Pottery Barn Outlet), but what's inside of them are.  I live in an area of Pennsylvania that is chock full of antique stores, and find myself wandering through at least one a few times a month.  Sometimes I buy, sometimes I don't.  I'm often drawn to things that have lost their usefulness, but are still inherently beautiful. On separate occasions last summer I purchase some skeleton keys, watch faces, and cat-eye glasses.  I've been drawn to the skeleton key shadowboxes that have been popular in catalogs for the past few years, but I didn't want whatever I did with them to look like I just bought it from Pier 1 or Pottery Barn.  I wanted whatever I ended up doing with them to look like a collection of wonderful bits from someone's fascinating history.  Here is what I put together:

Comments, questions, and critiques welcome!

I'm home sick today and my package arrived!!!  I love everything I got: a learn to crochet/amigurumi kit, doggie treats, recipes, and a rag rug!

At first, I thought SnapsAndDragons sent me a box of Samoas, which of course, would have been totally fine with me! Cheesy

But when I opened the box, look at everything I found!

My doggies, Brady and Sidda, got treats in this package.  They already tested them and absolutely approve!

I also received recipes that I can't wait to try out. Plus, recipe box oraganization cards.

Here's what I love the most about the recipes...

On the backs of the index cards they are written on, there are beautiful pictures of the main ingredient.  These are beautiful and sooooo creative!  Recipes include (picture in parantheses): Apple Crisp (apple), Chantal's New York Cheesecake (vanilla bean), Coffee Cake (cinnamon),  Butterscotch Brownies (brown sugar), Gingerbread (fresh ginger), Tiramisu Layer Cake (coffee beans), Chocolate-Cherry Cake (fresh cherries), Chocolate Chow Mein Clusters (Peanuts), Pecan Pie (shelled pecans), Lemon Bread (zested lemon), Pumpkin Bread (pumpkins), Peach Cobbler (peaches on the tree), Cranberry Upside Down Coffee Cake (fresh cranberries), Spiced Crumb Pudding (dates), Blackberry Cobbler (fresh blackberries)!

Also, she included recipes for dog treats (Bacon Bites, Chicken and Honey Dog Biscuits, Barley Beef Dog Biscuits, Peanut Butter Bones, and Milk Bone Dog Biscuits), two of which feature my very own spoiled pooches on the back!

I taught myself to knit last fall, and now I want to learn how to crochet, so Sarah sent crochet hooks and scissors in a roll she made with the prettiest fabric.  She also sent along some great cotton yarn for me to practice with.

Unfortunately, she ordered a book to go along with my Learn-to-Crochet/Amigurumi Kit, but it still hasn't arrived Sad .

I took a look at reviews of it online, and I can't wait to see it!!

I think with some practice, I could really get the hang of this.

And finally, probably my favorite thing in the entire package (although if she has sent Samoas, it would have been a close call).

Look at this beautiful rag rug!!!  She wove this on her loom, and I'm not sure if she knew, but it goes perfectly in my mud room, which is red, white, and blue.

Here it is in its new home, my mud room.  It's perfect.

Thank you so much for everything, Sarah!
