1  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / Possible Tattoo: opinions? on: October 29, 2009 11:43:11 PM

I'm currently in university studying classical voice, and I've been trying to think of a tattoo that has something to do with music for a long time. I didn't want it to be just a treble clef, because that seems so common. The idea of the peacock also symbolizes pride and confidence in oneself. That is something that I struggle with a lot, so I figure this will help me decide to be proud and confident when I'm singing! It also reminds me of self expression, which is exactly what singing is for me. Not only do I feel amazing when I do it, it is the purest form of me that is being expressed when I sing.
I need to work out where I would like the tattoo go, so maybe you all can help me with that! I would like to be able to see it with out looking in a mirror.
2  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / Absinthe: I'm the Green Fairy! on: November 02, 2008 12:19:07 PM
So this year for Halloween I decided to be the "Green Fairy" that people supposedly used to hallucinate when they'd drink Absinthe in 19th century Paris. She makes an appearance in the movie Moulin Rouge as Kylie Minogue, but she was definitely a historical figure. I believe she played a pretty significant role in the flourishing artistic culture that was going on there at the time. Playwrights, painters, poets, and musicians would drink absinthe, see the green fairy, and be inspired to CREATE!

I took apart a burlesque style short petticoat for the lacy lower skirt. the white shirt is one that i made a few months ago. i used the elastic waistband from the petticoat and sewed on a bunch of green tulle. i took a previously white satin bow-tie and colored it green with a sharpie. i already had the vest and leggings, and i bought the hat, wings and glove-y things. i added green touches to the wings. so yeah! i had a great time as a hallucinogenic alcoholic drink! Cheesy

hey fabulous crafters! i have to say i have always been very very impressed with all the projects on this website, and i have been a longtime lurker, but never a poster. i finally made something i am proud enough of to share, so have a look!

i used three small men's v-neck shirts and used a modified skirt pattern from the book Generation T.
here's my friend aimee trying it on for me:

and here's me trying it on. (i think it looks pretty good on both of us)

and here's a detail shot of the flower which is actually just a separate pin that can be put on anything:

thanks for looking! comments/criticism very welcome. Smiley
