11  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Re: Bellydance Swap Round II on: August 22, 2008 06:55:04 AM
I'm interested too, but this'd be my first swap. Would that be ok?

Also, if there's the possibility of making costume pieces for people, shouldn't the questionaire have something about what sizes  participants wear (or would that come later?)
12  COOKING / Dessert / Re: Baby monster, super gherkin and loads of other cakes (lots of pictures!) on: April 10, 2008 12:46:38 AM
And thanks for all the compliments! I'm glad others are as amused by the cakes as I was!

The baby monster cakes were for "welcome to the family, baby" parties, rather than baby showers (as we don't have them in the UK). Oh, and one was for a christening as well.

I like making cakes, and decorating them too. But I seem to have a bit of a problem when it comes to decorating them - if you want a cake in the shape of a dessert island, a baby monster, a pirate ship or a pair of shoes, no problem. If you want something normal, like, oooh, sugar roses or something - forget it!

Anyway, on with the pictures. All of these were made with obscene quantities of butter cream icing and fondant. And boy did they taste good!  Grin

The first baby monster cake - complete with lollipop rattle.

This little monster had purple fur and a blue bow...boy or girl? Who knows with monsters?

This fella's nappy/diaper shifted a bit in transport - but hey, these things happen with small babies!

What's green and fights crime? SuperGherkin!
(I asked a friend what sort of cake he'd like for his birthday party and he said "well, I would say surprise me, but I'd be worried I'd end up with a gherkin flavoured cake in the shape of a superhero..." With a challenge like that, how could I resist?)

A pair of dancing clogs in cake form, as requested by a friend who's an avid clog dancer for her 30th birthday.
15  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Re: Wire and UV bead tree on: April 08, 2008 12:46:16 AM
As promised (and finally!) a picture of the larger version in the bonsai pot.

We've had our office windows doubleglazed since the earlier picture was taken (hence the scaffolding in the picture), so the beads don't change colour as dramatically when in the sunlight on the windowsill anymore. The gold stuff is decorative gravel, held in position by a healthy dose of PVA glue.

Still, people must like them - I've had two workmates ask if I could make one for them too!
16  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Wire and UV bead tree on: January 24, 2008 12:39:52 AM

This was inspired by the tree of life pendant at http://www.beadstudio.com/info.php?a=613, and was made from random bits and pieces from my stash, including an old thread bobbin, about 50cm of multicore mains copper wire and a pile of UV reactive beads (which are coloured when in sunlight or another UV source, but white indoors or with normal electric light)

I'm planning a scaled up version for my office, to replace my poor cheap Ikea bonsai tree that died on me.

Pretty please with sugar on top - could you point me in the direction of the pattern you used for Flynn?

He's just so cute!!

Thanks a million - you're an absolute star!

Thanks very much for that. Only one small problem (which I forgot to mention - sorry!) I'm in the UK and can't find Fiber Trends stuff over here. Their website isn't particularily helpful about sending stuff abroad either.

That cake is a work of architectural and confectionary genius!  Cheesy
