*gasp* That is so pretty!

Gorgeous!  I'm so glad that I have some Fisherman's wool in the basement.  Any chance of a tute on how to divide and dye it?  Kiss

I am the worst at cocumenting my processes. I've tried but i always get so into whatever i'm doing that i loose track.
I can tell you it is helpful to get a niddy noddy ( http://www.doctordirt.com/blog/niddy.html) and measure out about 150yds of yarn into each little skein. You'll end up with an odd amount in your last skein from the big ball but that's ok - dye it too.
There are a bunch of online dyeing tutorials floating around (like http://www.dharmatrading.com/projects/acid_yarn.html or http://kathrynivy.com/patterns/extras/dyeing-yarn/ or take a class at a local yarn shop) that you could follow.
I wouldn't worry too much about being exact on the measuring or the dying. It will turn out lovely and crazy and imperfect and thats what makes it look so cool.
Good luck!

It looks gorgeous!   What a great idea to use Fisherman's wool, I hadn't even thought of doing that and dying it!  You're a genius!  What kind of dye did you use?  Do you lots of experience in yarn dying?  Did you dye long lengths at a time?

Sorry for all the questions!  I think I want to try this!

Oh yes, and I'm in awe of your speediness.  I am like the others that would knit a few squares and put it down for 6 months!

Thank you Smiley In answer to your questions:
I used acid dyes.
Yes, i dye yarn and fiber almost every day.
I wound it into little hanks and dyed them in a pot, putting the color where i wanted it. On a few i dipped 1/2 the skein in one color then the other half in another. No single skein came out the same and none had more than 3 colors.

I'm in awe it looks really beautiful.

I've seen many of these and was never enchanted with this till now that of seen yours.

How did you get dye the yarn and get all those colors to look so great together?

Thanks! I just went for "earthy" colors and warmer colors. Then i threw in some greens and purples because i couldn't help myself. I was going for a kind of deserty colorway.
5  CLOTHING / Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects / mini tshirt reconstruct on: August 08, 2007 12:08:30 PM
I made this dress for my 4 yr old daughter from a xtra small womens tshirt on the sale rack at target. It only cost $3.99! She loves it because it has big sparkly flowers on it and it's soft like a tshirt.

..and the back. I had to put a little makeshift dart thing so it wouldn't gape.

I picked up a camo shirt at the Army/Navy supply store. That one will be the next dress.

3 skeins? I'm having total money guilt now for doing mine in Kureyon... Tongue Cheesy

I would have done it out of Kuryon if i could have afforded it but now that it's sone i'm glad i did it in my own custom colors.

Where's the pattern? It only cost you $30? How?

The pattern is here: http://www.knitty.com/issuefall06/PATTlizardridge.html

And i got the Fishermans wool on sale at Joanns. Think i only used 3 skeins. The yarn was natural aran color and i dyed ALL OF IT! Hence the low cost.

Thanks! Plus i think i only spent about $30.00 on the cost of the yarn Smiley
I'm a fairly speedy knitter and each square only took me about an hour.
9  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Knitty's Lizard Ridge - finished! on: August 08, 2007 10:28:09 AM
Finally finished! It only took me a few months of knitting on and off on it.

It's knit from Lions Brand Fishermans wool that i wound into little skeins and dyed individually in random earthy colors.

The yarn got alot softer after they dying and blocking processes. The thing weighs a ton though!

It was a housewarming gift for my mom who just had a new house built and it looks great in her new living room. Plus she absolutly loves it!
This is it (unblocked obviously)before i did the edge and wove in all the ends.

I really enjoyed this project and am already thinking of making one for my own.
