Thanks everyone! I've been taking this bag everywhere and now my mom and sister have already placed their "orders".  Cheesy

That's really cute!  I bet the fabric of the lining looks great with the exterior.  I think that's probably some kind of vinyl. It seems one mostly buys leather in whole hides unless you're buying scraps or packages marketed for various types of craft/industry.

Yes I think you're right, it probably is vinyl. I don't remember what the tag said but I got in in the Home Dec section. It's made to look pretty real though I think, I'll post a close up later.

Fabulous bag! What kind of sewing machine did you use to sew it?

Just my regular sewing machine! Granted, my machine is 50 years old and is practically solid metal and weighs a ton so it's pretty sturdy. I'm not sure how well those newfangled plastic machines will do with such a thick material, I've only used one once. I did use a size 18 leather needle this time and had a lot better luck than the last time I tried to sew vinyl with just a universal needle. It worked great, one needle lasted the whole project!

I am jealous of your sewing machine! Wink

I think this is the basic idea.  Just make the strap part longer and leave the bottom off.

There is a really good tutorial for doing that bag with longer strap, hope it helps!
