1  Re: DNA double helix earrings (beaded, dangly, and bio-rific!), now with more pics! in Beads: Completed Projects by cerulean on: September 20, 2005 10:00:48 PM
Do you think these could me made into a bracelet?  My sis is a genetic counselor and doesnt have pierced ears...

I don't know about a bracelet, since the wire is fairly thin and probably wouldn't keep it's shape too well. However, I made a necklace for the Biology Nerd Swap that turned out pretty well and it's even easier than the earrings (since it's basically the equivalent of one earring).

2  "Trashy" Ribbon Rubberband Corsage in CHALLENGE 5 ENTRIES by cerulean on: August 22, 2005 12:31:38 AM
"Trashy" meets fancy in this corsage of crocheted flowers made from a trash bag and thin ribbon mounted on a rubberband chain.

I crocheted one daisy-style flower from a trash bag cut into a long strip and crocheted another one from thin light blue ribbon. I then took rubberbands, pulled them through each other to form a long doubled-stranded rubberband "string" and used that to chain a number of stitches (it brings a whole new meaning to "rubberband chain"   Smiley ). Attached the flowers to the chain, tied it around my wrist, and voila, I was sporting my stylish corsage.

3  Re: Reading is Sexy Swap Gallery! in The Swap Gallery by cerulean on: August 20, 2005 04:40:41 PM
I'm posting what I sent Qtykyuuko since the DC# of the package I sent her shows that it arrived on Monday, so I'm going to assume that she's received it. Ooo, but I had a lot of fun making her things. I went a bit photo-crazy....

Bookmark book tote (just big enough to fit a couple paperbacks and some other small items)

there's even bookmarks on the sides!

A paperback book cover that serves 2 purposes: disguising racy covers of romance novels & protecting them from food stains while Qtkyuuko reads them during lunch

A handy little pouch for storing a library card & for those times when she's looking for a non-fiction book

And the rest of the goodies:
-beaded paper rose book thong that matches the long rose earrings I made Qtkyuuko for the Earring Binge Swap (I felt it sort of fit the whole romance novel/Reading is Sexy theme too)

Since she really likes anything Japanese:
-a painted metal fan bookmark from Japan (my friend studied abroad there and brought me back goodies!)
-3 sheets of origami paper (also from Japan, they can be used for bookplates or anything that Qtkyuuko wants, I just didn't want to cut them w/o a good finished project in mind)
-origami clip-on bookmark made from another sheet of the origami paper & a large paper clip

Needlesandpins, I'm so glad that you liked your stuff! I took photos, so you don't have to find a camera to borrow.

I received my swap package from needlesandpins today and oh my, it's glorious!

Mitosis tote bag

Inside pocket ("science is crazy cool")

Nitrogenous base (one pyrimidine, one purine) glass marble hair clips

DNA & phosphate glass marble earrings (I can also use 'em as pins on the mitosis tote when I'm not wearing them as earrings)

DNA handmade/handbound planner book

Spine of book (amino acids! woo-hoo!)

Lovely poem titled "The Family is All There Is" on the inside front cover (even more interesting because needlesandpins' handwriting looks very similar to that of one of my best friend's handwriting)

First tab of planner - "Calendar"
(4 tabs total which correspond to the 4 nitrogenous bases - cytosine, thymine, guanine & adenosine, Calendar, To Do Lists, Going To Do Someday, & Assignments + Notes

I absolutely love everything! I've been happily using my mitosis tote bag and taking it everywhere and showing it off to my friends.

Thank you so much needlesandpins! It looks like a ton of time & effort went into making everything (like each date on the calendar pages of the planner was hand-numbered) and I appreciate it so much.

just to add a photo since this page is photo-less thus far....

Here's the earrings I made for Hanau which she received a couple of weeks ago; they're like the DNA earrings I made earlier ( http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=41719.0 ) just with different colors

I'm hoping that the pair she sent me will get here tomorrow (else, I'll start worrrying that something happened in transit....since she said she was sending them out last Saturday).

I came home yesterday after a long day at work (in a rather blah sort of mood due to a few too many lab klutz moments)....when I found these beautiful earrings in my mailbox from olive + orange:

olive + orange, thank you so much! I love the colors and style and am wearing a pair right now.

btw, if anyone looks closely, you might notice that the background of the photo bears a strong resemblance to the back cover of a rather popular book right now. Oh yes, Friday night = 5 hours of quality time with Mr. Harry Potter!

qtyuuko PM-ed me earlier and said she received the earrings I sent her, so here's a pic:

She said she loved really long earrings so I made 'em pretty long!

I received my earrings from poprock6903 today. They're really pretty with a large blue star bead on the bottom of each earring (one side of each star bead is iridescent) and with three small beads on top of each (2 small silver star beads sandwiching a small blue bead). Here's a photo, though I don't know if you can see the small silver star beads clearly. The earrings are on the teal fabric that poprock6903 sent them with.

I'm pretty sure that poprock6903 mailed out her earrings to me before she received mine (the folded paper star earrings), so that makes it even cooler that we made star-themed earrings for each other!

Thanks for the awesome earrings poprock6903!

10  yellow CAUTION tape duct tape bag in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by cerulean on: July 11, 2005 01:04:21 PM
I had some yellow plastic CAUTION tape so I made a duct tape bag out of it.

Inside, the two main sides are lined with normal duct tape, with the side panels and bottom panel made out of black duct tape. A long strip of velcro is used for closing the bag.
