1  KNITTING / Knitalongs / Re: Gwennabe Tank Knitalong on: September 29, 2006 06:12:59 AM
I'm a little intimidated by the pattern, as I've never done any short row shaping and I am a little bigger in the bust area.  I really want to make this though.

Who is interested in knitting along on this?

Yes - they are separate circles.  I just don't know how to end each "circle" . . .  Anyone??

I've been seeing a lot of jewelry like this.  How do I make the loop?  I string on some beads, and go back through the first beads to secure and make it a round loop shape.  How would you go about securing it?  Do I just continue to thread round and round the loop?  What else can I do to secure before breaking the thread?

I wish I could refinish our counters like this. Is it durable?

It seems to be just fine.  They clean up great.  I've only had them done a few weeks but I've had no problems at all.

If you have grooves, you can fill them with wood filler and sand.  I had two spots that I filled in and you cannot tell.

I'm not sure.  I can't say I've ever put food on directly on it.  I think I always use a cutting board or plate between food and countertop.

is the finish as smooth and lovely as it looks?

It is, indeed.

I cleaned it thoroughly with comet and then fantastic.  I primed it with Kilz, I sponged it with 2 shades of grey.  I sponged over it after it a second time (just because I wanted it more blended than it was).  You can use any kind of paint for that step, and am sealing it with Minwix Polycrilic.  The picture shows 1 coat of the sealer - I will probably do 2 more.

You will now see here the before and after for my laminate "butcher block" countertop which I cleaned, primed, sponge painted, and am now sealing:
