11  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Re: Granny's Daughters Swap R7- SU March 26, 2011- April 16, 2011; SO May 7, 2011 on: April 01, 2011 11:30:46 AM
For a chuckle, check out Mason-Dixon Knitting's joining techniques. One includes cream cheese!  Cheesy

Happy April Fools everyone!

P.S. I love the duckie avatars. My best friend's nickname is Duckie, because he sticks his lips out when he plays the bass. Pahhaha.  Tongue

I checked out the link for joining as you go. Holy confusing!
It's a lot easier with squares in your hand, trust me.

It does, but it's only small sections and they aren't very noticeable.  The item will stay together nicely with this join.
Yeah, but it goes by really quickly and I don't mind it that much.

Joining squares as you go, courtesy Attic24!  Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

I used the black yarn as the joining round, so the blanket will be made up of 2 round grannies.

I am having so much fun with this and we don't even have partners yet!  I was crocheting on the bus to a fieldtrip and two of my kids asked what I was doing.  I explained about Granny Squares and Granny's Daughters and when we got there, they asked how many 'babies' I had made.  Hee.  It was really cute.

Awh baby grannies! Rename the swap I say!

@craftADDchick: still migraining, haven't forgotten to get you instructions!

Thanks for the love guys! I can't wait till its finished!!  Grin

OnePinkHippo, that looks great! How long does it take to join them with that method? I was planning to sc mine together...
Really quick! Did I tell you about the method? I slip stitched between the granny chain areas... does that even make sense?  Undecided I have a migraine now, and can explain better tomorrow, but for example, for the corners, I chained one and then slipped it through the next square... ok, that really doesn't make sense,  ::)haha, I can explain better tomorrow!

So, you added a round of black and then joined them? Now, I'm extra curious about the method you used. I hope the migraine isn't a bad one! Get some rest Smiley

I joined them as I went. I'm sure I can find a better explanation... there's a whole method to just join grannies as you crochet the last round. I'll look around. I have an exam tomorrow, but I should get it to you soon. (Like, when I'm procrastinating.  Tongue)

18  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / Re: Doilies shouldn't curl...right? on: March 27, 2011 05:35:59 PM
Normally when crochet does this it's because you don't have enough stitches in your rounds.  If it were me, I'd rip back to a point where it's not curling and try it again, but with more stitches in each round.

Good luck!

Thanks! I was thinking that. I think it needs more chaining spaces.
19  CROCHET / Crochetalongs / Re: 2010 12" Squares CAL- December on: March 27, 2011 05:34:30 PM
Congrats CraftADDchick!  I love the colors.  I am still working on the 2010 squares.  Maybe I'll get it done before the end of 2011.

I'm betting you'll get it done before then Wink I still have to finish 2009, 2008, 2007... At least the 2009 squares are finished...

I don't feel bad about getting ready to join my 2009-ghan now! Cool

Does it matter what type of yarn used as long as it's worsted weight? Meaning, are they to be acrylic, wool...etc?

They should be acrylic, unless your partner wants something different (you could discuss it with your partner once they are assigned). Mine are all acrylic, since I'm using them all together in a blanket. It wouldn't work if I had some wool ones that shrunk when I washed it... I wonder how cotton GDs would work? Hmmmm... I may have found a use for all of the random bits of cotton yarn leftover from washcloth making... it could make a fun spring/summer blanket! Yikes! I'd better finish the first one I have....

I need all acrylic. A cotton GD blanket would be heavy, but you could probably link them together and make a washcloth.  Smiley
