It really sounds like it would be a lot of work for you to build her a website and if you don't think her stuff will sell anyway, it certainly won't sell on a random site out there that nobody is likely to stumble upon.  Having a solo website is even harder to market and get people to find you than going the Etsy route. 

Really, with only 20 cent listing fees why not try out Etsy and see how it goes rather than spend hours and hours on a website right off the bat?  I second the consignment thing & trying to get into local shops too.

And wow, I'm jealous of your $3 thrift sweaters!  I bought one here at a Goodwill and it was $14...for ONE.  Sometimes living in this city has disadvantages.
