41  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing Machines: Discussion and Questions / Re: Smart by Pfaff sewing machines? on: July 27, 2006 05:57:27 PM
I wound up with the Pfaff ClassicStyle Quilt 1527, because I have a mad, mad crush on IDT. It's fabulous. No complaints, just warm and fuzzy feelings toward it.

I have to admit, though, I use the machine a lot more now that Project Runway is back on. Watching people in a sewing frenzy just gets me in the mood.

Hi jamiejones82, I'm seriously thinking about getting one.  How much did you get it for, what feet are included, and can you drop the feed dogs on it?  thanks!
42  COOKING / Dessert / oatmeal cookies? on: July 12, 2006 09:19:07 PM
I have a good flour based chocolate chip cookie recipe, but now I want to turn it into an oatmeal chocolate chip cookie.  does anyone know how I substitute oatmeal into my recipe, if that makes any sense?  If I have 2 cups of flour in my original recipe, do I do 1 cup oatmeal and 1 cup flour?  Or is it a different ratio?  Do I need to add extra wet ingredients?  If so, what?

43  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: Why do you knit? on: July 09, 2006 09:32:46 PM
1.  Why did you learn to knit?
I was a real nerd in middle school and I remember reading Are You There God, It's Me Margaret by Judy Blume, and her grandma knit her sweaters.  I decided that I wanted to knit sweaters too.

2.  Why do you knit?
It gives me something to do when I'm sitting around doing nothing really.  I.e. watching TV or waiting.  It helps to relieve stress.  Whenever I had some big paper due or a test the next day, I always made a ritual to knit a little the night before.

3.  Do you have a knitting guru or idol?  Who and why?
I would have to say Elizabeth Zimmermann.  I think her technique is wonderful, it's like she spent all this time really really studying HOW to knit.  I like Kaffe Fassett's use of color.  He's really turned colorwork into an artform.

45  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Re: "scrap" afghan on: June 11, 2006 01:50:41 PM
reminds me of a honeycomb.  you are my hero.  is it cozy?

Seriously, it's a little cold cause of all the holes and it's monsterously heavy cause i used that 100% kitchet cotton stuff.  But I love it anyway.

Hi I used an I.  Sometimes, I'd forget what size I used and used an H.

49  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: Survey: Continental vs. English on: April 15, 2006 09:32:09 PM
1.Where do you live?
south san francisco, ca

2.What style do you prefer?
i knit continental and english.  i prefer continental when it's straight knit/purl, but for complex texture work, i knit english.  i can knit for longer periods of time continentally.

3.Who taught you how to knit? (do you know their lineage?)
i took a class from my local rec center.  she was caucasian/American.

4. Have you tried, successfully or not, to change styles throughout your knitting life? If yes, why?
i changed because i think i'm going to soon get carpel tunnel and i love learning new techniques.
