21  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / my first sewing project in 7 years-knitting needle rolls on: November 28, 2007 07:24:01 PM
alright, so here are my needle rolls FINALLY!! i stayed up many many late nights til 2 am working on these or forcing my parents(yeah right, i really had to twist their arms) to babysit my daughter so i could work on them during the day. they're slightly wrinkled yet b/c i haven't had time to iron them yet but i will tomorrow b/c i gotta wrap em already for xmas. making them wasn't technically difficult besides the fact i screwed up measurements, (thats what i get for making them when i'm tired) i think if i were to make them again though i'm going to do a lot simpler. i also have this posted in the knitting needle/crochet hook roll along but thought i'd post it here too. if its in the wrong spot though, feel free to move it. oh, i also have to mention i loosely based my needle roll on this tutorial by lupinbunny http://lupinbunny.blogspot.com/2007/02/needle-roll-tutorial.html. basically i followed the tute in how she sewed her pockets and then i made up my own measurements.

the first one is for my SIL.
the outside fabric

inside pockets-i messed up a bit on this one so i had to tack on some extra purple at the top. still turned out alright i guess...not as happy with the needle rolls as i thought i'd be. of course, i am my own worst critic. also for some reason the sides look wonky in the pic but they're not in real life.

the second one is for my MIL
outside fabric

inside pockets--screwed up this one too and had to add more chickens at the top but thankfully it turned out a little better than the other one.

now last but not least is the one for my mom

this is actually how i did the flap. all i did was sew a line across the whole roll about 2 in. down so that it made almost a crease and its easy to fold down.

here they are all rolled up

23  IMAGE REPRODUCTION TECHNIQUES / Stenciling: Discussion and Questions / please help! on: November 24, 2007 05:21:22 PM
i'd like to make some tshirts for xmas for friends and family but don't really know anything about stenciling so here's my questions.
1. is it a problem if i have plastic coated freezer paper?
2. what brand of paint do i use?
3. do i use half acrylic and half fabric or 3/4 to 1/4 or Huh
4. do you dab or brush on the paint?
5. any special kind of applicator to use?
6. where else can i find stencils besides stencilry?
7. are finished tshirts washable and dryable or do i have to hand wash and line dry?
8. how do you know what part of the stencil to cut out?
9. when you iron the paint to set it do you have to use something to cover it up or can you iron directly on the paint?

thank you in advance for all of your advice!
24  UNITED STATES / Indiana / going to shipshewana tomorrow! on: November 01, 2007 09:47:36 AM
hey all,
i'm going to shipshewana tomorrow (friday) to get some good amish food with a friend and we're not sure what else to do there since the flea market is closed for the season but i was wondering if there were any good fabric or yarn shops around that i could blow my money at. it doesn't have to be right in shipshewana either, it can be the next city over or whatever too. thanks!
