11  baby quilt to coordinate with Pottery Barn bedroom in Quilting: Completed Projects by SpottedFrog on: January 03, 2009 02:46:36 PM
I did not use the Pottery Barn linens, too pricey! I got coordinating fat quarters that drew out all the component colors of the jungle motif linens my SIL chose for her second baby, a boy. If I can get an action shot I will.  She has very conservative taste, I was almost worried that it would be too bright, but she loved it after all!

I was very inspired by a couple quilts here on Craftster, both used blocks of long strips, one in big rainbows (http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=225620.0), the other a girly cherry theme (http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=273265.0). All machine sewn & quilted. This is the first time I used the free motion setting on my machine. I still need practice (it's not a Bernina with the stitch regulator) but overall I am very happy with the result.

I had a small issue because I was composing the quilt at random & realized that my top wound up longer than the backing fabric I had. So an extra stripe was made & the label is incorporated in that stripe.

12  2 stripey blankets in Crochet: Completed Projects by SpottedFrog on: January 03, 2009 02:36:06 PM
This first one was silly & random. I was in Dollar Tree to buy gift boxes and hey! There's YARN here! Bernat Haven to be exact, in an assortment of baby pastels.
Ta Da! Nice blanket to add to the charity pile for this year.

Next is the one I made for my husband for Christmas. Finally I have hit upon a craft where he has said "when are you going to make one for me?" Cheesy joy!
I Love This Yarn (Hobby Lobby house brand) in navy & cranberry. I lost the label for the "sock monkey" stripe. All acrylic.

Yes, he really likes it. I had to grab it off the couch to photograph as it's been very grey & wet since I finished it.

The owls were with the Halloween stuff at Hancocks, and yet not very Halloween-ish to me. When I found the plaid in another section I knew they had to go together! I'll admit I have 2 more squares sewed up to make myself a matching tote Cheesy I'm not usually a big fan of orange either.

Action shot! My beautiful shrug from Superhooker! Cheesy

love it! love it! love it! Now I need it to not be 90 degrees so I can wear it.

17  Simple throw in pretty greens in Crochet: Completed Projects by SpottedFrog on: September 22, 2008 08:31:03 AM
I'm still a noob at crochet. I tackled this as a project-requiring-more-than-one-sitting effort. I am very pleased with my result!
All single crochet. My edges are darn near perfect even if I fail at counting rows (supposed to be seven rows in each stripe, there's a six & an eight in there). No pattern, just figured out how many rows I'd get out of a single ball & went from there. Roughly 32" x 40", that's all the yarn I had.

Yarn stats:
Phildar Super Baby, 70% acrylic, 30% lambswool, sock yarn? on sale!
Color names: Poussin (creamy), Pomme (lighter green) & Gazon (darker green).

18  simple baby quilt for a girl in Quilting: Completed Projects by SpottedFrog on: September 18, 2008 04:45:47 PM
I 've been slacking but buckled down today & finished.

One of these days I'll learn how to do binding properly. I took the mom to be to my favorite quilt shop & said "pick some fabrics, several of them", we had fun for an hour putting things together.
The backing flannel says "baby girl" all over & one of the pink prints says "love". The flamingos are my favorite.

19  science & sewing hand carved stamps in Other Image Reproduction Techniques: Completed Projects by SpottedFrog on: September 14, 2008 01:24:03 PM
I went on a carving binge a couple night back, forgot to photograph one, d'oh!

The science one is made from one of those "for Really Big Mistakes" erasers. I heard someone else say they didn't like the way it carved but I didn't mind. My first carving, many years ago, was actual linoleum, so I had no trouble with the firmness of this rubber. It is a good deal stiffer than PZ Kut or any of the other Speedball blocks, but softer than Linoleum.

The science stuff is actually from a very old student chemistry stencil, I traced the shaped right on the eraser & went from there.

The spool of thread & scissors are PZKut. The thread I drew my own image and was mostly an exercise in "how small can I go?". The scissors is a Dover vintage image. I hand draw on the erasers or trace with pencil.
