So I wear a v-neck t-shirt (usually the cheapie men's Hanes) almost every day. I love wearing high-waisted skirts with them, so I was quite excited when I saw this skirt on the American Apparel website:
http://store.americanapparel.net/rsa7300.html#i. Alas, $34 is an awful lot of money for five pieces of fabric sewed together (whether by well-paid US workers or otherwise), so I set out to make my own out of $1/yard Walmart fabric, keeping in mind that my sole sewing skills are those picked up in 7th grade fabrics.
Results (sorry about the picture quality, my wavy Ikea mirror is pretty much useless, and the timer on my camera doesn't work):

I'll probably end up wearing this with those black heels and this black shrug:

I'm going to find some solid knit fabric soon, and next time I'll actually cut in straight lines and do proper seam allowances--I'm a lot more willing to spend $2 on fabric and an hour of my time than $34!!!
