5  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Weddings and Bridal Showers / Re: The Crafty Wedding Craftalong! on: July 17, 2014 06:19:20 AM
I am in the linens stages right now. Luckily it's a pretty casual thing but I have been going to Salvation Army (no other good resale shops around here) every day or two to buy white sheets. My plan is to get some fabric paint and do solid stripes on the bottom of the tablecloth. I'm going to post a pic and soon as I pick a color for the stripe!
6  UNITED STATES / Michigan / Upcoming Craft Shows? on: February 28, 2014 06:03:01 AM
I recently started making things to sell (versus making things to amass great piles of things) and I'd really like to try a craft show. Does anyone know of any upcoming shows within a few hours of the Detroit Metro area?

8  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Selling Crafts on Etsy.com / Re: Custom item requests falling through- What am I doing wrong? on: December 09, 2013 09:36:52 AM
That happened to me once, too. Considering I have had so few sales I was pretty disappointed. I noticed later that the person had favorited an item just like the one she asked me for only it was more commercial looking with machine embroidery instead of hand Sad

10  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Tiny gift bag pouch on: December 09, 2013 09:28:30 AM
I made these tiny little bags for candy and other Christmas treats so that I can put them in a stocking or basket and keep everything looking neat. I ended up putting Hershey kisses in one of them. There is elastic in the opening so that everything doesn't just fall out.

I think this is a pretty easy project so hopefully some beginners out there can enjoy it and put it to use this holiday season.

I cut one square of fabric into a 9 x 4.25 rectangle and one small piece of elastic to 6.5 inches. I serged the edges so that I wouldnt have to line these bags, I wanted them to be a quick, easy project.

I folded the rectangle in half, right sides together, with the folded end at the bottom of the bag.

I sewed the sides using about a quarter inch seam allowance. You should have something resembling a small flat bag.

Now you need to make this bag stand up on its own, so holding it upside down youre going to push down the middle so that the two ends of the bottom stand up, like in this picture:

It should look like this:

Now fold those two pointy ends together like this:

and draw a little line at the one inch mark like so on one side:

and flip the bag over and draw a line on the other side. Fold these two corners apart and sew them each, individually. It should look like this:

Fold over the top a half inch or so and sew around the top leaving a small space big enough for a safety pin to get through.

Secure a safety pin to your elastic toward the end of the elastic, but not too close because the pin can fray the elastic. Feed the elastic through the half inch or so you just sewed.

You should have two elastic ends coming through the small space you made big enough for the safety pin. You need to sew these two ends together. I dont worry too much about whether the two ends are flat or whatever. You can machine or hand sew the elastic, just make sure its secure. I dont recommend tying a knot, that hasnt worked for me, ever.

Pull the elastic, which should now be in one piece and sew up the tiny safety pin sized hole and turn it right side out.
TADA, insert candy or peppers
