I kind of wish I had used a more computery font now, but what's done is done.  Enjoy!

6"

If anybody wants the pattern just ask, I'll send it along.  It's about double the size that I stitched it at, and I would recommend making it larger than I did because the tiny lines were rough going!

3  fiber friday June 18, 2010 in Spinning: Completed Projects by spareGus on: June 18, 2010 09:27:39 AM
Ok, I couldn't wait to start the thread since I finally have something to share after months and months!

I called it 'cabbages' because it reminds me of red and green cabbage Smiley  It's 104 yards of thick and thin single made with roving from the urchiness on etsy.  I'm still learning so there's lots of overspin, but, I do like overspin so it's not a big deal for myself.  Grin

4  It Tickles When We Kiss in More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works by spareGus on: October 19, 2009 03:34:17 PM
I've been thinking a lot about hair lately...this is the first in what will probably be a series of more or less follicularly obsessed pieces. Grin
so, I used to think that I had kind of a mustache.  I'm very blond, though, and it really isn't a mustache.  just some hair.
anyway, my imagination morphs some hairs into more:

It's a wood burning on pine.  I used my cotman watercolors for the tinting.  I really like the combo of natural wood, the burned areas, and the subtle colors.  I'm still trying to determine if I want to paint the routed edge in a solid color or leave it plain.

These are my first!  I've had my drop spindle for over a year and finally got the courage to try it out...so, they may not look like much but I am super proud  Smiley

These are my first two spins with my practice fiber.  They are about 10 yards each I think.  Very overspun in lots of places, but, still, I am learning, and I happen to like bits of overspun so it kind of works out.

And this is my first plied yarn, about 20 yards.  Much thanks to mullerslanefarm for helping me with my new person questions last night!

So, not much to look at, but I love it and so far this has been the most relaxing thing I've done in a long time!  All I have to do is figure out how to get more fiber and practice, practice!

6  This is Our Time! in Needlework: Completed Projects by spareGus on: September 25, 2009 12:33:58 PM
So, I pretty much love the Goonies movie.  Having visited the house and everything, I needed to make a little something to put up in my house to remind me of the love.

It took me much longer to chart and stitch than I'd like to admit, but I love the result.  I think I'm going to end up with a wall of random embroidered and stitched quotes, but I can't stop!   Grin

7  Let it burn! in Completed Projects by spareGus on: September 22, 2009 10:06:42 AM
I wasn't quite sure where to put this, so if it needs to be moved, I'll do that Smiley

As I happen to be obsessed with new tools and techniques, I picked up a woodburning tool at the craft store last week and here's my projects so far:

I had some pre-cut wooden pieces to work with...I can't remember what I originally purchased them for but they work pretty good for wood burning, if a little difficult due to the grain.  This one's just a little bird and I like the way that the coloring of the wood works with the image.  The disc is about 2" diameter.

A little lamb burned onto a plank of what I think is poplar.  Trouble now will be cutting it out...I think a jigsaw?  I am not really sure.

Just took a picture with a quarter to give an idea of the size.

And two birds on this one.  I liked it the best so I made a little something for myself...

I used jade chips, some vintage glass beads, and bodhi seeds from a meditation strand that broke.  I need to fix up my poly job on the pendant, but otherwise it is my new favorite thing.

I hope you enjoyed it!  If anyone has any ideas for cutting out nice circles from a plank of wood please tell me!

8  Acorn Girl in More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works by spareGus on: January 29, 2009 09:14:16 AM
I am totally obsessed with making linocuts these days, they are so fun and versatile!  It gives me a chance to pull out the watercolors, too!
Here's my latest, I enjoy it a lot:

It's actually pretty small, just 4" x 6".

9  Cupcake VooDoo in Completed Projects by spareGus on: December 17, 2008 08:24:23 AM
A friend of mine begged me for a felt cupcake pincushion this year, completely disregarding that I've never made either a pincushion nor a felt cupcake before.
I ended up doing a lot of research and scouring of the internet and now I am thoroughly obsessed!
Here are my attempts:

very first one

pink frosting, I went a little overboard on, haha.

The limey one, my favorite.  It was my first fruit slice experiment and I love it.

My husband finds the whole thing morbid toward food.  I think it's a really pretty way to keep my pins  Grin

10  Tell Us How You Really Feel in Needlework: Completed Projects by spareGus on: December 04, 2008 05:52:30 PM
As I am often told.  I guess I am kind of known for my blunt honesty.  These words have come out of my mouth more than once:

and a close up:

This thing took me a ridiculously long time...I hand charted the font, and then an hour later found out that there is a pattern somewhere that I could have took it from.  Oh well, I guess it completes the irony of the thing.
I also came up with the fancy design and charted it, which also took me a long time.  I think my next project might be simpler.
